      유식삼성설과 훈습의 관계성에 대한 고찰 = A study on the relationship between the yoo-sik samseongseol and vasana

      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      This paper examines the relationship between the yoo-sik samseongseol(유식 삼성설; Theory of three types of nature of phenomena classified by the Dharma-character School) and vasana(훈습; hume or imprints), focusing on the vasana of ‘uitaseong(의타성; ‘interdependent existence of things)’. As a result, we could have some conclusions as follows.
      First, uitaseong(의타성) depends upon vasana(훈습) and yeon-gi(연기). Uitaseong(의타성) is the self-nature of alaya-vijñapti. It is not a self-existing entity, but a result of being bound by a relationship outside oneself. Despite the fact that the essence of consciousness is no-mind, the reason why humans can discern and recognize their own world is because of vasana(훈습) and yeon-gi(연기).
      Second, the quality of uitaseong(의타성) depends on vasana(훈습). Uitaseong(의타성) has no fixed the self-nature. The essence of alaya-vijñapti is structured differently by vasana(훈습). Therefore we can live in pain through vasana(훈습) of karma and klesa [번뇌, beonnoi] or live in wisdom through munhunseup(문훈습).
      Finally, the difference in action of the uitaseong(의타성) is also structured differently by vasana(훈습). Even alaya-vijñapti is the basis of the all recognition phenomena of humans, it is structured by unseol vasana(언설훈습), yuboon vasana(유분훈습) and akun vasana as 11 style of uitaseong(의타성). In this way, alaya-vijnana become the seed of world understanding and its function as yeon-gi(연기) will also be able to work.
