represent the meaning of sight, such as brightness, thickness of colors, colors, beauty and ugliness, with respect to sentence patterns. Specifically it aims to identify the adjective predicates and the sentence patterns which represent the meaning of sight, and to analyze each sentence pattern and relationship between the semantic properties of nominal and adjectival predicates and the roles of postpositions. Based on these investigations and the analyses, it is argued that the following five sentence patterns have some different usages respectively:
ⅰ) The pattern of 「N 2 ha(ga) + N 1 ga + A」is generally used in representing the judge of sight which is heavily dependent on brightness and colors.
ⅱ) The pattern of 「N 2 haㆍga + N 1 ni + A」 is used in representing the causes of the judge of sight.
ⅲ) The pattern of 「N 2 haㆍga + N 1 ni + A」 is used in representing the mediums of the judge of sight.
ⅳ) The pattern of 「N 2 ni + N 1 haㆍga + A」is used in representing the agent of the judge of sight.
In addition this study clarifies the following properties of the adjective predicate construction which represents the meaning of sight:
ⅰ) It often uses the first class phrases.
ⅱ) It has many similarities with other adjective predicate constructions.
ⅲ) It uses several different kinds of phrases with respect to the order of nominal items and semantic properties.
