<AbsText> IT WAS A GLORIOUS MORNING towards the end of January, and W. and I were in the best of spirits as we started to walk to the little wooden bridge, about a mile and a half away, where we were to meet the keeper. Our way lay for the first part along the road, but we soon left it and entered a large wood, upon the other side of which were the water meadows which we intended to try first. By W.'s advice, I loaded my 16-bore and kept a sharp look-out for pigeons, of which there were many about; none, however, came near enough to tempt me to try a shot. </AbsText>
