As Chinas population is aging, the old settlements in small and medium-sized cities can no longer meet the needs of the elderly, which has become an urgent problem to be solved. Based on an examination of small and medium-sized cities in China, this paper analyzes the needs of the elderly in terms of barrier-free design, socialization, culture, and medical care considering their aging needs, and proposes a design strategy for aging retrofitting in small and medium-sized cities to enhance the quality of life and well-being of the elderly. By analyzing the aging problems in small and medium-sized cities, this study provides relevant retrofitting strategies, which offer new ideas and reference values for aging design.
