초현실주의의 특성과 작가연구 - 살바도르 달리, 르네 마그리트, M. C에셔를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

초현실주의는 현실의 경계를 허물고 무의식과 억제된 실재성을 탐구하며, 예술에 새로운 창의성과 상상력을 부여한 사조다. 20세기 초 출현하여 미술뿐 아니라 영화, 광고, 문학 등 다양한 매체에 큰 영향을 끼쳤으며, 르네 마그리트의 오브제와 데페이즈망 기법은 비합리적이고 신비로운 표현으로 강한 메시지를 전달했다. 본 연구는 살바도르 달리, 르네 마그리트, M. C. 에셔의 주요 작품을 통해 이들의 무의식 세계와 예술적 의도를 분석하고 초현실주의의 사상을 종합적으로 이해하고자 한다. 연구는 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 각 작가의 생애, 세계관, 작품 분석을 포함한다. 달리는 프로이트의 영향 아래 꿈과 무의식을 몽환적 이미지와 상징으로 표현했으며, 관객이 내면을 성찰하도록 유도했다. 마그리트는 일상 사물을 비현실적 맥락에 배치해 시각적 퍼즐을 제공하고, 현실과 이상 사이의 성찰을 유도했다. 에셔는 수학적 원리와 기하학으로 착시와 불가능한 공간을 표현하며 논리와 환상을 결합해 무의식과 존재에 대한 질문을 던졌다.

Surrealism is an artistic movement that breaks the boundaries of reality, exploring the unconscious and repressed realities to inspire new forms of creativity and imagination in art. Emerging in the early 20th century, surrealism significantly influenced not only the visual arts but also a wide range of media including film, advertising, and literature. In particular, René Magritte’s use of objet and dépaysement techniques conveyed powerful messages through irrational and enigmatic expressions. This study aims to examine the surrealist worldview and artistic intentions of three representative artists Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and M.C. Escher by analyzing their major works, thereby offering a comprehensive understanding of surrealist ideology. Based on a theoretical framework, the research investigates the artists’ lives, worldviews, and works. Dalí, under the influence of Freudian psychoanalysis, explored the unconscious through dreamlike imagery and symbolic techniques, guiding viewers toward introspection. Magritte juxtaposed ordinary objects in surreal contexts to provoke visual puzzles that challenge logical thinking and encourage reflection on the relationship between reality and ideals. Escher utilized mathematical principles and geometric forms to depict illusions and impossible spaces, merging logic and fantasy to pose fundamental questions about the unconscious and human existence.
