Mr. Editor.--You will, I hope, excuse me for my long silence, knowing, as you do, that my disposition to give you useful communications is good, if I had ability to write to please the scholastic ear. My scruples, however, in offering this communication in my plain style, I partly get rid of, in the belief that the majority of your readers are as plain men as myself, and will probably read it with as much attention, (if the subject matter promises profit,) as they would even if written purely classical.
