Based on the research on questionnaires answered by 252 youths riding snow board in Gonjiam Sky Resort in Gyeonggi province, this study has reached the following conclusion.
1) Demographics of youth snow boarders
Out of 112 snow boarders who were injured, the number of males and females was 68 and 44, respectively. Among those injured, the number of those aged between 17 and 19 was 38(34%), which was the largest number among those injured, followed by the age group of 14-16 which number was 33(29.4%) and 11-13 which number was 29 (25.9%).
In terms of snow boarding experience, 46 persons (41.1%) of those with 2 year experience have the highest possibility of being injured, followed by those with 1 year experience (35 persons, 31.3%) and 3 year experience (19 persons, 17.0%)
To the question of how many times did they visit sky resort, 83 persons(74.1%) answered 1-5 times a season, 14(14.4%) persons answered 6-10 times and 10(9.0%) persons answered 16 times or more.
To the question of which month did they get injured, 48 persons (42.9%) answered January, 38 persons (33.9%) answered February and 26 persons(23.2%) answered December.
To the question of what time did they get injured. 32 persons (28.6%) answered 10:00-12:00, 27 persons (24.1%) answered 12:00-14:00 and 22 persons (19.6%) answered 14:00-17:00.
2) Slope where youth snow boarders get injured
36 persons (32.1%) answered that they got injured in intermediate-level slope, followed by high-level slope (35 persons, 31.3%) and low-level slop (24 persons, 21.4%).
77 persons (68.8%) answered that they got injured when they were free boarding, while 18 persons (16.1%) answered during getting lessons at ski school and 9 persons (8.0%) answered during common snow boarding class.
3) Reasons to the injury of youth snow boarders
35 persons answered that their own carelessness caused injury, accounting for 31.3%, followed by lack of skills (26 persons, 23.2%) and unstable slope (19 persons 17.0%).
4) Injured parts of youth snow boarders Wrist injury accounted for the largest proportion of 61.6%, followed by knee injury which accounted for 35.7% and shoulder injury of 11.6%.
5) Type of injuries of youth snow boarders Sprain was the most popular injuries that youth snow boarders get, accounting for 47.3%, followed by muscle strain (31.3%) and muscle pain(24.1%).
6) Medical treatment that youth snow boarders get when they got injured 42.3%(58 persons) received medical treatment from professional medical practitioner after they got injured. 24.4% (27 persons) received emergency treatment from petrol agents in the ski report and 24.4%(27 persons) received emergency treatment from their friends. 7) Recovery of youth snow boarders get when they get injured
74.7%(84 persons) were completely recovered while 25.3%(28 persons) were incompletely recovered.
