파리외방전교회 첫 선교사들의 활동과 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간은 다른 존재들보다는 우월하면서도 존귀한 모습으로 인간 고유의 특수성을 가지고 있다. 인간은 세상의 어떤 것과는 다르게 사유할 수 있고, 그와 동시에 창조 할 수 있는 존재로서 인간은 아주 독창적이면서 고유한 존재임이 드러난다. 인간의 이런 활동과 특징은 퇴보하기 보다는 성숙을 거듭하여 인간의 우월성과 고귀함을 더해간다. 그리고 인간은 지식과 사유로 인하여 자신의 자리에서 머물러 있는 것이 아니라 저 너머의 세계에 대한 갈망과 염원을 지니고 있다. 또한 인간은 죽음이라는 한계 앞에서 좌절보다는 용기와 희망을 발견한다. 인간이 지니고 있는 본성과 특성 중에 하나이고, 죽음 앞에서 좌절하기 보다는 다른 영역의 것과 함께 자신을 만들어간다.
본 논문에서는 인간의 본연의 모습을 한국천주교회 안에서 파리외방전교회 첫 선교사들의 활동과 영향을 조사하여 살펴보았다.
그 동안 파리외방전교회의 설립배경에 대한 연구와 설립과정에서 있는 프랑스 혁명과의 관계에서의 연구들은 있었다. 특히 한국교회와의 관계에서 연구되어 왔다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 프랑스만이 아니라 세 선교사들이 조선에 오기 전에 선교하였던 중국에서의 선교활동과 지침도 살펴보았다.
우선 2장에서는 조선 선교의 외적 요인들을 살펴볼 것이다. 외적 요인들에는 선교사들의 본국인 프랑스 교회에 대한 모습을 살펴보았다. 프랑스 교회는 당시에 프랑스 혁명으로 인하여 큰 변화를 지니고 있었다. 그리고 프랑스에 일어나는 해외 선교의 유행이 있었다. 또한 교황청에 설립한 포교성성의 설립의도와 규칙들을 살펴보고, 파리외방전교회가 설립된 이유와 회칙들을 살펴봄으로서 선교사들의 행동의 근거들을 알 수 있다. 그리고 쓰촨 시노드를 통해서 중국에서 겪었던 선교 활동의 어려움과 해결방법을 찾아냈다 이 연구의 시도는 한국교회에서 활동한 모습의 근거들을 아는데 도움이 되었다.
3장에서는 조선 교회의 상황을 살펴보았다. 조선 교회는 스스로 설립된 교회이며 평신도들의 두드러진 활동이 특징으로 나타나는 교회이다. 이런 조선교회에서는 성직자들을 필요로 하였고, 그 청원의 노력과 수고가 남아있다. 현실의 어려움과 박해들을 무릅쓰고 많은 시도들을 통하여 교황청까지 자신들의 편지를 전달한 그들의 모습이 담겨있다.
4장에서는 조선 교회에 파견되는 선교사들의 입국을 서술하였다. 외국인의 모습을 지닌 선교사들의 입국은 조선 교회에는 처음 시도되는 것이었다. 그만큼 입국에는 선교사들의 끈기와 시도가 있는 만큼 평신도들의 끊임없는 노력들이 있었다. 이로써 조선 교회의 신자들이 갖고 있던 것들을 알 수 있다.
5장에서는 선교사들에 대한 희망이 어떻게 나왔는지를 정리한다. 선교사들의 활동에 대한 영향은 3가지의 측면이 있다. 먼저 2장의 회칙에서도 언급되는 방인사제양성에 힘썼던 선교사들의 정신과 노력을 알 수 있다. 그리고 회장들을 선별하고 신자들과 함께 성사생활을 정리하는 교계제도의 설립이 조선 교회에 기준을 제시하였다. 선교사들의 활동에서 나타나는 사목활동과 순교, 서적 편찬은 당시의 교회만이 아니라 현재까지의 교회의 모습을 만들어주는 모습이다.
선교사들의 활동과 영향은 조선 교회 신자들에게 영향을 주었다. 인간의 여정을 충실하게 걸어간 사람은 선교사이다. 그들은 하늘과 땅을 바라보았고, 하늘의 음성을 듣고자 노력하였다. 선교사들이 가졌던 정신과 행동들을 기억하고 실행하는 모습으로 한국 교회에 하느님의 뜻이 전달되기를 실행해야 한다.
반면에 현대에 일어나는 개인주의와 상대주의, 물질중심주의가 팽배해 가면서 인간이 지닌 존엄성이 상실되고 있다. 더불어 인간은 스스로 문명을 건설하고 발전시키는 모습으로 힘을 얻어 구원마저도 자력으로 이루어내려고 하고 있다.
선교사들의 모습은 한 역사적 사건을 넘어 시대를 초월하는 삶의 고백이다. 믿음과 희망, 사랑의 행위로서 영원을 약속받는 거룩한 의식의 한 부분이다. 그들은 모두 단순한 말을 사용하고 바른 행동을 하고자 하는 평범한 사람들이다. 여기에서 실현되는 것이 자신의 통제라는 특권층의 윤리가 아닌 일상에서 경험되는 하느님의 은총이라는 것은 인상적이다. 또한 그들의 신앙은 사회의 가치들의 회개를 위해 사회에 투신하는 그들의 행위로부터 분리될 수 없다. 그들은 사회로부터의 초탈과 사회로의 투신을 동시에 이루어냈다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Human is superior being over others because of the characteristic of human being. Human is not like others, human is inherent and ingenious. Human has ability to think and create things. The characteristic of human does not regress over time but it actually develops. With knowledge human has, we keep our desires for another world. We are not discouraged in front of death, but we are encouraged with hope and courage. This is one of the characteristics that humans hold. We build ourselves to be better being.
This report is to inform human’s true inner nature through researching Paris Foreign Missions Society’s missionaries activities and their effects in Korean Catholic Church.
Through time, there have been researches about Paris Foreign Missions Society’s background information, especially on relationship with Korean church. Researches stated the information about missionaries’ activities in France but we also want to include their services in China.
Chapter 2, we are looking at external factors in Korean missionary work. The external factors we are going look at are French churches’ change, international missionary work’s spread, Propagation evangelism’s purpose and rules and Paris Foreign Missions Society’s reason for its existence and rules. The report is also talking about missionaries’ problems with Sichuan synod and solutions to that problems We can find the reasons as we look through the missionary work in Korean church
Chapter 3, we would like to look at the situation in Korean church. Korean church is the church that laypeople built. The clerics were required in Korean church, and we can see their noble hard work with their services for the churches. Even the persecution could not stop their beliefs for the churches; they carried their words and hope to The Holy See, Vatican.
Chapter 4, this was the first time tried for international missionaries coming to Korean churches. Because of missionaries’ effort to come to work in Korean church, laypeople in Korea were able to keep their promises.
Chapter 5, How the hope for foreign missionaries was built up? Effort of missionary work can be divided into three ways. Three missionaries came to Korea worked to expand their services with other foreigners. They made a society, picked a native priest and created rules to follow even to do publication a diary. Later, the society becomes the basis of Korea church. The effort that missionaries had shown in earlier time is still passing onto today’s churches.
Paris Foreign Missions Society’s missionaries activities and their effects give to grow their belief who Korea church. A missionary is a person who faithfully travels the journey of mankind. they tried ro hear the vice of heaven and fixed their eyes not only on earth but also on heaven. Thus, by remembering and following the spirt and deeds of the missionaries we must do our best to proclaim the will of God in the Catholic church of Korea.
On the other hand the rise in relativism and materialism relatives the dignity of the man. In addition, as they develop and get civilized, they think can save themselves by there own human power.
Missionaries are who faithfully walked human’s path. They looked through things and tried to listen what God has to say. To remember and follow missionaries’ effort, the word from heaven must pass onto Korean churches. On the other hand, in modern times, we are losing our dignity as human because of individualism, materialism, and relativism. Human beings had built own society and built civilization on their own. And now we are trying to make redemption on our own. Missionaries’ life means human’s characteristics. It is more than to motivate or affect somebody. It is a direction and a purpose that we, humans must follow.
