야후 영어 사이트에 존재하는 영어시조 동호회《sijoforum》의 구성과 의미 = Organization and Significance of an English Sijo Group 《Sijoforum》 in Yahoo

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine Sijos that were written in English and presented in an English Sijo Group 《Sijoforum?SIJO: A Korean lyric poetic tradition》in an Internet portal Yahoo. It`s specifically meant to explore how English Sijos were perceived and how they developed into one of poetic forms in the world in an effort to suggest some of the right directions for Sijo. This Group is a gathering of English Sijo lovers that is run in Yahoo by Larry Gross, who is a poet and retired teacher. This Group in ahoo is joined by residents in English-speaking countries involving the United States, Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines and India, etc. The members of this group learn about Sijo, present Sijos written by themselves, make a review of each other`s works, have a discussion and share theoretical information. There are three moderators including Larry Gross and 209 members in this group. It ranks third in size among Haiku Group. The moderators and members mostly learned and create Haiku, Tanka, Renga or Haiga before, which are traditional Japanese poems. The messages posted by them are to present, appreciate and comment the poems composed by themselves, and they share theoretical information on poetry or introduce publication sites of books written by authors. In addition, they give thanks to the moderators in writing or inform of all sorts of contests or book ads in this cafe. What comes into question the most in the course of presenting and discussing Sijos written by themselves is the form of Sijo. They are well aware of the standard from of Sijo, but they attempt to compose English Sijos in diverse forms. The first English Sijos were written in North America, and English Sijos are now being adapted by people from different countries in the world.
