The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a more rapid and accurate estimation procedure of land compensation cost by employing GIS in implementing road construction projects. To do that. the paper is to construct an automatic input system in reading land characters from the map and subsequently to formulate a calculating process in order to generate the total land compensation expenditures.
According to the results of the empirical study based on the methodology mentioned above. the estimated value of land compensation cost is almost identical to the original cost provided by the local government.
Finally. it should be emphasized that this kind of attempt in connecting urban planning and GIS will be able to make a remarkable contribution for constructing better urban systems.
