Present research was conducted to assess whether the one-way avoidance deficit of the septa) rat is due to the intertrial handling.
Twenty-eight albino rats were randomly assigned to septa) lesioned group or operated control group. All subjects were handled for 10 days after surgery, and they were given to an emotionality test, a four point rating scale technique by Brady & Nauta (1953), at the 11th and 12th postoperative day. After the emotionality test, subjects were trained to a criterion of 9/10 avoidance responses in a oneway active avoidance task.
In the results, septa) rats were not different from control in emotionality, and they acquired oneway avoidance responses more poorly. It suggests that the deficit of septa) rats in one-way avoidance task was not due to the intertrial handling.
