錦江中下流 松菊里型무덤의 巨視的 傳統과 微視的 傳統에 대한 試論的 考察 = Macro and Micro Traditions of Songgungni-type Burials in the Mid-Lower Stream of the Gum River Basin

Since Songgungni-type burials were first formulated by S-O Kim, there have been few contextual studies of these burials. In previous studies, material patterns in macro contexts are thought of as a simple summation of material variations in micro contexts, while material variations in micro contexts are regarded as a simple exemplification of or exception to material patterns in macro contexts. In opposition to these decontextualised approaches to burials, this paper examines how material patterns in macro contexts, defined as traditions, are maintained or modified according to the association of burial attributes in micro contexts. For that purpose, this paper looks at the mid-lower stream of the Gum River basin where Songgungni-type burials are clustered as a set. Six burial attributes are introduced as those constitutive of Songgungni-type burial traditions in this region. It is then compared how they are associated with one another,between macro and micro contexts. As a result, a major difference is found between burial sites near the Songgungni site and those away from it. In the former sites, burial attributes are associated in hierarchical ways to represent sequential relationships between burials. In the latter sites, burial attributes are associated in localised and circumscribed ways to represent complementary categories. This difference is interpreted as a difference in exercising power through burials.
