‘관계적 탐구’로서의 내러티브 탐구 = Narrative Inquiry as Relational Research

Since its start in Europe at the beginning of 20th century, it has been quite long that qualitative research has taken its presence as a leading research methodology in social science field in Western nations. In Korea, it has been only around 10 years that research activities and interest in the qualitative research have dramatically increased in academic arena. This article has been written with an aim to extend methodological understanding of narrative inquiry, one branch of qualitative research. It was focusing on the point that narrative inquiry is acknowledged as ‘relational research’ and was composed of four areas in relation with ‘relational aspects of narrative inquiry’ as follows: fi rstly, about key concept of narrative inquiry; secondly, about relationship between three-dimensional narrative inquiry space (temporality, sociality, place: Clandinin & Connelly, 2000) and relational research; thirdly, about relational ontology and relational ethics in narrative inquiry; lastly, about what it means to be a narrative inquirer in the aspect of research relationship.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

20세기 초를 시발점으로 유럽에서부터 싹트기 시작한 질적 연구는 서구의 사회과학연구에 있 어 대표적인 연구 방법으로 자리매김한 지 이미 오래되었다. 한국의 사회과학연구는 최근에 들 어서야 10여년에 걸쳐 질적 연구에 대한 수행과 관심이 급증하고 있는 실정이며, 본 연구자는 질 적 연구의 한 갈래인 내러티브 탐구가 지니는 관계적 특성을 방법론적 이해를 바탕으로 분석하 고자 본고를 작성하였다. 본고는 내러티브 탐구가 ‘관계적 탐구’로 표방됨에 주목하며, 그 근간 을 흐르고 있는 ‘관계적(relational)’ 측면을 중심으로 내러티브 탐구에 대하여 다음과 같은 구성 으로 살펴보았다. 첫째, 내러티브 탐구의 핵심적 개념에 대하여 논하였다. 둘째, 내러티브 탐구 에서 경험 분석과 이해의 틀로서 작용하는 ‘3차원적 내러티브 탐구 공간(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000): 시간성, 사회성, 장소’의 개념을 관계적 탐구의 맥락에서 논하였다. 셋째, 관계적 존재론 과 관계적 윤리(Clandinin et al., 2018)의 측면에서 내러티브 탐구를 살펴보았다. 넷째, 연구 관 계성 측면에서 내러티브 탐구자됨이 어떠한 의미인지를 기술하였다.
