      Purpose: To investigate the effect of base curve and total diameter changes on soft contact lenses fitting. Methods: Twenty subjects with experience of wearing contact lenses participated in the study. Eleven subjects were fitted with spherical contact lenses and nine were fitted with toric contact lenses. The soft lenses used for the fittings had three different base curves and three different diameters according to the individual corneal curvature (On-fitting lens with reference, −0.2 mm steep-fitted lens on + fitting, and +0.2 mm flat-fitted lens with radius of curvature). The diameter-adjusted lenses, which included a −0.3 mm flat fitted lens and a +0.3 mm steep fitting lens, were fitted. After fitting the lenses, over-refraction, static fitting, and dynamic fitting were investigated. Results: For overrefraction, there was a ‘+’ direction in the refraction value with the steep fitting lens, and there was a ‘−’ direction with the flat fitting lens. The spherical power (p<0.00) and the cylindrical power (p<0.00) were statistically different, but the axis (p=0.67) was not statistically different between steep and flat fittings. In the static fitting evaluation, the vertical deviation and horizontal deviation were lower with the steep fitting lens and higher with the flat fitting lens (vertical deviation, p<0.00; horizontal deviation p<0.00). In the dynamic fitting evaluation, the amount of lag was greater with the flat fitting lens, and lower with the steep fitting lens (temporal direction, p<0.00; nasal direction, p<0.00) Conclusions: In this study, it was confirmed that the fitting parameters of soft contact lenses may affect fitting characteristics. This finding implies that despite using soft contact lenses, changes in the lens parameters could affect fitting characteristics. Therefore, fitting with different lens parameters could be necessary if the current fit is not satisfactory.
