This study aims to analyze the aspects of children play during the era of colonization. In particular, it pays attention to ‘fairy tale play’ and ‘student play movement’ as a starting point for discussing children play in 1920’s on the premise that ‘children play’ is the genre of ‘modern times’. Like other literature (culture) in the era of colonization, ‘children play’ is the literature combining ‘children’ with ‘play’; ‘discourse’ where literature and society coexist; and ‘media’ produced with interaction between image and reality. For example, it realizes ‘fairy tale’ world with children as media into visual images and expands the imaginative fairy tale to the arena of ‘sympathy’. It was 1910 when the symbol indicating ‘children play’ appeared in public discourse, but it was not until 1920’s when children play of modern sense started. ‘Fair tale play’ that appeared in full swing at 〈Children〉 was written in the format of modern play. Place, time, who are heroes, how many characters appear and what are the personalities are recorded in the script of fairy tale in details. In addition, ‘Children Play’ is utilized as media for inspiring the collective appreciation. With this, children play in 1920’s yields the results of ‘Collective sympathy’. It is the result obtained as modern play campaign that started with children play, imagined the whole colony as a theater. Through this, modern children play during the era of colonization explored 2 possibilities of visualizing the imagination feature of literature neglected or ignored by Korean literature into ‘Children’ code and making representation of imaginative world as cultural alternative.
