A portal’s special logo on an has been used for expanding its identity. This study analyzed Naver on national holidays. This study chose its flexible identities on Independence Movement Day, Constitution Day, National Liberation Day, National Foundation Day, and Hangeul Day from 2012 through 2020, investigated their visual components by year and analyzed their design characteristics. The design characteristics were divided into evaluation elements, including identity, informativeness, historicity, consistency, and variability to analyze images through a user survey. As a result, first, most forms of visual components were combination. Naver green was used as dominant color, and various colors were utilized as assistance color for the graphic elements. Graphics of Taegeukgi and Mugunghwa were used for all national holidays except for Hangeul Day. Animations were used for each design. Second, in design characteristics, there was high preference for identity in the formation of an image with the memories and clear characteristics; for informativeness and historicity, in the expressions of the factual information based on the history; in contrast, for consistency, in the consistent maintenance of the company’s identity and the national holiday’s key elements; and for variability, in the utilization of animation. What users would get through the portal’s special logo is the information that characterizes it. Users want accurate information through its identity, which is the most necessary tool for constructing its consistent image. Hopefully, this study would be the baseline data for the methodology analyzing the design characteristics of Naver’s special logo on national holidays.
