This study conducted a meta-analysis based on the research results published from 2000 to 2020 to find out the effect of song-oriented music intervention for the elderly. 64 effect sizes were calculated from a total of 30 studies (17 degree papers and 13 academic journal papers), and the overall average effect size was 0.954, indicating that song-oriented music intervention was very effective for the elderly. The average effect size according to the symptoms of the intervention target was in the order of depressed elderly (1.281), general elderly (1.142), dementia elderly (0.628), and stroke elderly (0.448). In addition, the average effect size of music intervention facilities was in the order of home care welfare facilities (1.509), other facilities (1.175), medical welfare facilities (1.072), nursing hospitals (0.909), and leisure welfare facilities (0.893). The average effect size according to the functional level of the intervention target was in the order of partial dependence (1.452), dependence (1.019), and non-dependence (0.905). In the type of intervention program, singing (1.080), song discussion (1.072), and song making (0.935) were followed, and in the case of song preference survey, survey was conducted (1.164) and survey was not conducted (0.995). The average effect size according to the purpose of intervention was in the order of social/emotional area (1.257), physical physiology area (0.637), cognitive area (0.567), and behavioral area (0.254). In the total number of sessions, 11-20 sessions (1.257), 1-10 sessions (0.718), and more than 21 sessions (0.714). In the intervention time, less than 50 to 60 minutes (1.398), less than 40 minutes (0.805), less than 40 to 50 minutes (0.684), and more than 60 minutes (0.653) were shown, and in the study free type (1.064) showed a higher effect size than non-majors (0.635). Through this study, it was found that song-centered music intervention is a positive effective intervention for the elderly. Based on these research results, it is hoped that it can be an effective reference for music therapy programs for the elderly.
