기획논문1 : 걷기-공간적 사유와 “몸”의 자아 구현 -구이람 시집 『걷다』를 중심으로 = 『Walking』 -Spatial Reasons and Realization of Self-identity of "Body" -Focused on Yi-ram Gu`s Collection of Poems "Walk"

국문 초록 (Abstract)

구이람 시인의 두 번째 시집 『걷다』(2011, 시학)는 움직이고 활동하는 존재로서 인간의 존재론적 불안과 이런 삶의 위태로움을 강화시키는 현대적 징후에 대한 시인의 탐구와 자아성찰을 보여주는 시집이다. ‘걷다’라는 동사가 몸의 움직임을 뜻하듯, 이 시집에는 ‘몸’에 대한 철학적 사유가 두드러진다. 현대사회에서 점점 더 가속화되는 도시화는 결국 몸의 소외를 낳는다. 진행되는 기계화에 몸의 기능은 저하되고 그 건강성을 상실하며 몸의 자리는 사라진다. 몸은 하나의 부속물처럼 취급되고 쉽게 다른 몸으로 대체되며 마치 복제되는 공산품처럼 개체성을 잃고 인위적이고 인공적인 것으로 변질된다. 그리하여 소외된 몸은 쉽게 현대사회의 속도에 휩쓸린다. 구이람 시인의 시집 『걷다』는 속도에 휩쓸려 자신을 잃지 않으려는 주체의 몸부림이며, 발을 헛디디는 작은 실수만으로 넘어져 그 속도의 흐름에서 소외되고 도태되어 결국 배제되곤 하는 이런 ‘속도의 광증’에 대한 문제 제기이다. 또한 이 시집에서의 ‘걷기’는 걸음을 지탱하고 있는 지반으로써의 세계가 위태롭다는 것을 강조해주는 행위이기도 하다. 걷고 있는 땅이 안전하지 않다는 느낌은, 불연속적으로 끊어지는 삶과 순간순간 균열의 민얼굴이 드러나는 세계에 대한 인식이기도 하다. 이는 자기상실과 타자화의 위협에 노출되어 있는 현대인들의 실존적 불안을 잘 보여주고 있다. ‘걷기’는 걸음의 주체가 되는 ‘몸’을 환기시키고, 원초적이고 생래적인 인간의 몸에 대한 인식은 자연에 대한 생태적 사유로 이어진다. 『걷다』와 그 이후 시집들에서 찾아볼 수 있는 생태주의적인 시인의 사유는 훼손된 자연의 재생과 동시에 훼절된 자신의 본질에 대한 회복에의 염원으로 이어진다. 그래서 인간 중심주의적 사고를 넘어 인간과 자연의 공존과 함께 모든 형태의 불평등과 위계화를 해소하는 공동체적 이상향을 지향하고 인간의 문법과 규율과 속도를 벗어나 자연의 흐름과 법칙, 순환에 귀의하고자 한다. 이는 필연적으로 근대가 쌓아놓은 성과에 대한 도전이 될 수 있고, 근대가 관리하는 ‘시간’과 ‘장소’를 벗어남에 그 목적이 있다. 이 시집은 ‘실제성 회복’과 ‘거리 좁힘’, 그리고 ‘곁길로 걷기’의 전략으로 이를 이루어내려 한다. 본고는 이러한 시도들을 구체적인 작품 속에서 찾아보고, 그 의미를 고찰해보며 이러한 노력이 근대에 대한 위반이며 생태적 인식의 발로이기도 하다는 점을 밝혀나가려고 하였다. 또한, 장소가 자아에 대한 감각을 구성하며 장소의 이동은 접촉과 관계, 통행과 장소 바꿈을 가져와서 결국 자신의 정체성을 재구성한다는 점에서 볼 때, ‘걷기’를 추구함은 곧 자아의 재편성에 대한 욕구에 다름 아니다. 이런 욕망의 관점에서 이 시의 공간적 사유를 자아정체성의 구현과 관련하여 살펴보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Having starting her literary career as a poet with ‘Shimunhak (Poetry)’ in 1999 and returned to the poetic circles with a collection of poems titled, ‘Shiwashihak’ in 2009, Yi-ram Gu has published a total of 4 collections of poems so far, while deepening her world of poems. A few years after publishing her first collection of poems, ‘How many bags of rice has the woman cleaned and cooked so far?’ in 2009, she published another collection of poems titled, ‘Walk’ in 2011, and it shows a poet`s inquiry and introspection into humans` existential anxiety and critical conditions of life as a being moving and acting. Besides, as the verb, ‘Walk’, indicates a kind of body movement, a philosophical reason for ‘Body’ is remarkable in this collection of poems. Urbanization accelerating more and more in the modern society gives a birth to the alienation of body at last. In the process of mechanization, the functions of body become deteriorated, and its healthiness is lost and its place disappear as well. As our bodies are treated as a single part and easily replaced with others, they lose individuality like industrial products copied all the time, being converted into artificial and man-made things. As a result, an alienated body easily gets swept away by the speed of the modern society. The beginning of the modern times, symbolized as a train, approached with high speed, and like an express train going forward, the rush of the modern times has kept aiming for ‘Something Faster’ so far. In such an era, ‘Walking’ can be another challenge for such a speed. Her collection of poems, ‘Walk’, is a struggle of subjects who are trying not to lose themselves in such a high speed, and it brings up a question about ‘Insanity of Speed’ since we may get alienated and fall behind in the flow of speed, further being excluded from the society, when we lose our footing and fall down by accident. Moreover, ‘Walking’ in this collection of poems is a behavior of emphasizing that the world is precarious as a ground supporting our steps. Such a feeling that the ground is not safe to walk is also a perception of the world where a life discontinuously disconnected and a bare face of cracks are exposed moment by moment. It clearly shows the existential anxiety of modern people suffering from a loss of self and a risk of becoming others. By ventilate our ‘Body’, which is the subject of steps, ‘Walking’ leads a primitive and natural perception of human bodies to an ecological perception of nature. Commonly found in both ‘Walk’ and her most recent collection of poems, ‘Sky Tree’, the poet`s ecologist reasons are led to desires for the regeneration of nature damaged and the restoration of one`s essence corrupted at the same time. Therefore, it pursues a community-like utopia where human beings coexist with nature and all types of inequality and hierarchy are resolved, beyond a human-oriented thought. Consequently, it is trying to join the flow, law and circulation of nature, breaking away from the grammar, regulations and speed of human beings. It can be a challenge for achievements the modern society has accumulated, and its purpose is to break away from ‘Time’ and ‘Place’ managed by the modern times. All the works in this collection of poems attempt to get done all the things mentioned above, with such strategies as ‘Realism Recovery’, ‘Distance Narrowing’ and ‘Stepping Sideways’. Thus, this study aims to look for such an attempt in concrete works of hers, examine the meaning and clarify that such endeavors are a challenge for the modern times and an expression of an ecological perception as well. As a place composes senses for an ego, and ‘Movement to a Place’ brings up contacts, relations and passages and places changed, it becomes an chance to recompose an identity. In this aspect, pursuing ‘Walking’ is the same as a desire for the reorganization of an ego. In the viewpoint of such a desire, this study intends to examine the spatial reason of this poem in association with the realization of self-identity.
