기획논문1 : 구명숙의 여성주의 문학연구 성과 = The accomplishments of Myongsook Goo`s Feminist Literary Research

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 숙명여자대학교 구명숙 교수의 퇴임을 앞두고, 그의 여성주의 문학연구의 성과를 되짚어보고 그 성격 및 지향점을 밝힘으로써 그의 학문적 업적을 기리기 위한 것이다. 구명숙은 여성주의 문학에 관심을 가지고 깊이 있는 연구를 진행해 왔다. 그러한 연구가 창작으로 이어져 여성주의 시를 꾸준히 발표하는 시인이기도 한데, 연구와 창작, 나아가 대내외적인 사회 활동에 이르기까지 구명숙의 여성주의에 대한 관심과 열정은 대단하다. 이 글에서는 지금까지 발표된 구명숙의 연구 논문 중 여성주의 문학에 대한 연구 논문 14편과 여성주의 문학 관련 저서 및 업적들을 중심으로 고찰하여 구명숙의 여성주의 문학연구의 성격 및 지향점을 밝히고자 하였는데, 요약하면 다음과 같다. 우선 그의 연구 실적 중 가장 우수한 업적은 무엇보다 여러 곳에 산재해 있어 잊히거나 소외되었던 여성작가들의 작품을 발굴하고 복원하여 수집·정리한 『한국 여성문학 자료집』 전 6권을 발간한 것이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 업적은 그동안 한국 문학사에서 남성적 질서에 의해 가려져 있었던 여성작가들의 텍스트를 찾아내어 정당하게 재평가하는 데 이바지했으며, 더욱 활발하고 다양한 측면에서 여성주의 문학연구가 이루어질 수 있게 하였다. 한편, 구명숙의 여성주의 문학연구는 남녀의 전통적인 지배관계로 인해 여성이 얼마나 억압되고 부당한 삶을 살아왔는지에 대한 보고의 성격을 가진다. 그 보고는 여성 스스로 삶에 대한 자각에서 비롯된 ‘여성적 글쓰기’로 가능한 것이었다. 구명숙은 여성들이 주변인 혹은 타자로 인식되어 온 자신의 모습을 진지하게 들여다보면서 자기 정체성을 찾으려는 성찰적 관점에서 여성적 글쓰기를 하는 것이라 보았다. 그와 동시에 구명숙의 여성주의 문학연구가 중요시하는 것은 여성성에 대한 새로운 발견이다. 여성의 몸에 새로운 의미를 부여하고 생명을 잉태하고 양육하는 모성성을 회복하자는 것인데, 그러한 여성성과 모성성이야말로 상생과 공존, 화해와 평화를 추구하는 새로운 세기의 비전이 될 수 있다고 보고 있다. 요컨대, 구명숙의 여성주의 문학연구가 지향하는 바는 여성 스스로가 여성적 글쓰기를 통해 능동적이고 주체적으로 자아를 실현해가는 삶을 추구하고, 여성성과 모성성을 회복하여 화해와 용서로 성차별 문화를 극복하여 여성과 남성이 평등하고 조화로운 상생의 평화 세계를 이루며, 나아가 인간과 자연이 서로 조화롭게 공존하는 생명공동체의 세계를 이루는 것이라 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to review the accomplishments of Myongsook Goo`s feminist literary research, and to honor her academic legacy by revealing the characteristics and goals, before her retirement of professor at Sookmyung Women`s University She has performed profound research with interest in feminist literature. The research continued to consistent creation of poems about feminist poems. Furthermore, her great passion about feminism led to various social activities not to mention research and creation. This study reviewed 14 research papers about feminism literature among her whole research papers, her literature books and academic achievements, and then revealed the characteristics and goals of her feminist literary research. The summary is as follows. First, the most prominent accomplishment is publishing 6 volumes of 『Korean Feminist Literary Materials』, in which she discovered forgotten or alienated female writers, restored their works and then collected and organized them. This accomplishment contributed to finding and re-evaluating female authors` texts that were hidden by male-dominated literary world, leading to vibrant feminist literary research in various aspects. Meanwhile, her feminist literary research reveals how oppressed and unfairly treated women have been by conventional male-dominated relationship. The revelation was made possible by ``feminist writing`` based on women`s own realization of their lives. She viewed it as self-reflective writing that women try to find their own identity by looking into their appearances perceived as marginal people or strangers. What her feminist literary research focuses on is new findings about femininity. It is to instill new meanings to a woman`s body and to recover maternity that give a birth and nurture. She considers the feminity and maternity as the new century`s vision that pursues coexistence, co-prosperity, harmony and peace. In short, what her feminist literary research aims is that women themselves pursue lives of active and independent self-realization through feminist writing, that women and men accomplish harmonious, equal and peaceful world together by overcoming gender-discriminating organizational culture with forgiveness and reconciliation along with recovering feminity and maternity, and that human and nature form the world of community of life by coexisting harmoniously.
