Currently, coin type, bar type and vertical linear type actuator has been used as three main actuators for mobile phone vibration generator. Coin type and bar type actuator, which generate vibration by the principles of eccentric rotation, need bearings or brushes. However, there is a drawback in short product life from these abrasions. Also, circular type virtual leaner actuators are currently in highlight as an actuator for touch-screen mobile phones. On the other hand, the negative side for the mobile phones using circular type virtual leaner actuators is increasing noise among assembled mobile phone components as they lay flat. Therefore, this paper proposes horizontally vibrating type linear actuator. The study compares and analyzes dynamic performance between the conventional vertical and horizontal linear actuator by designing horizontal vibration type actuator with the commercial electromagnetic solver, Maxwell.
