This paper first reviews the studies about top management and its roles and the causes and effects of executive succession. Then the study compares the two Korean presidencies (the Rhee administration: 1948. 8 -1960. 4 ; and the Park's: 1963. 12-1979.10) to investigate the realities of the executive succession in Korea.
The results show that the rates of succession of two Ministers(the Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of Commerce and Industry) are significant. In addition, about one third of the Minister successions are caused by external factors. Both evidences because the top management's ultimate responsibility is to guide and control the process of interacting with environment.
