낭독극의 정신분석학적․교육적 함의 = The Psychoanalytic and Educational Implications of Reading Theatre

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 낭독극을 정신분석학적 관점에서 재해석함으로써, 낭독극이 예비 공연이나 텍스트 분석을 위한 리허설 과정으로서가 아니라 동시대 언어 조건 속에서 실재가 돌출하는 수행적 사건의 장임을 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 디지털 매체 환경에서 언어와 목소리가 데이터화․비물질화되는 현실 속에서, 낭독극은 말의 시간성, 신체성, 그리고 의미로 환원되지 않는 목소리의 잉여를 복원하는 연극적 형식으로 재조명될 가치가 있다. 이 논문은 낭독극의 메타극적 구조에 주목하여, 감정이입과 동일시의 실패가 어떻게 주체의 분열을 가시화하는지를 분석하고, 이 과정에서 목소리가 대상a로 기능함을 논의한다. 또한 시각적 결핍 속에서 발생하는 응시의 귀환과, 침묵․실수․눈물과 같은 우연적 순간을 통해 도래하는 투케(tuché)의 실재를 낭독극의 중요 사건으로 해석한다. 더 나아가, 낭독극의 장에서 배우․관객․진행자 사이에 형성되는 전이와 역전이의 순환을 고찰함으로써, 낭독극이 이해의 완성을 지향하는 교육 패러다임을 전복하고 ‘이해되지 않음을 견디는 윤리적 경험’이 된다는 점을 조명한다. 이러한 낭독극의 재개념화는 연극․정신분석․교육을 가로지르며 낭독극을 실재의 발화가 발생하는 수행적 사건이자 주체의 윤리적 형성을 촉발하는 동시대적 실천으로 위치 지은 것에 그 의의가 있다.

This article reinterprets reading theatre from a psychoanalytic perspective in order to demonstrate that it is not merely a preliminary form of performance or a mode of textual transmission, but rather a performative site in which the Real irrupts under contemporary linguistic conditions. In a digital media environment where language and voice are increasingly datafied and dematerialized, reading theatre calls for renewed attention as a theatrical form that restores the temporality and corporeality of speech, as well as the surplus of voice that resists reduction to meaning. Focusing on the metatheatrical structure of reading theatre, this study analyzes how the failure of empathy and identification renders the division of the subject visible, and argues that voice functions in this process as the Lacanian objet petit a. It further conceptualizes the return of the gaze within conditions of visual deprivation and identifies the Real of tuché—emerging through contingent moments such as silence, mistakes, and tears—as a crucial event in reading theatre. By examining the circulation of transference and countertransference between actors and spectators, this article illuminates how reading theatre subverts educational paradigms oriented toward the completion of understanding and instead operates as an ethical experience of enduring what cannot be understood. Ultimately, this reconceptualization situates reading theatre, across the domains of theatre, psychoanalysis, and education, as a contemporary practice that functions both as a performative event in which the Real is articulated and as a catalyst for the ethical formation of the subject.
