한국어 만화 텍스트의 흉내말 사용 양상 = Usage of Symbolic Words in Korean Cartoons

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국어의 흉내말은 텍스트에 따라 다양한 사용 양상을 보이므로 특정한 텍스트에 나타나는 모습을 흉내말의 전반적인 특성으로 일반화해서는 안 된다. 만화는 흉내말 사용 비율이 높은데 장르에 따라 사용 빈도가 달라, 명랑 만화나 무협 만화에서 사용 빈도가 높고 교양 만화에서는 상대적으로 낮다. 만화에서 흉내말은 주로 맥락 정보를 나타내며, 의태어보다는 의성어의 사용 비율이 높다. 만화에서 흉내말의 사용은 탈규범적이다. 흉내말은 중첩형을 취하는 것이 일반적인 데 만화에서는 삼중첩, 사중첩 또는 그 이상의 반복형도 나타나며, 자립성이 없는 어근이 단독으로 사용되기도 한다. 만화에서 흉내말은 다른 문장 성분과 관계를 맺지 않는 독립어로 기능하는 경우가 많다. 만화에서 흉내말은 대상을 직접적으로 표현하기 위해 형태를 변형하는 일이 잦다. 글자의 모양에 차이를 두어 상황을 보다 사실적으로 묘사하기도 한다. 만화 텍스트에서 사용되는 흉내말은 사전에 수록되어 있지 않은 말들이 많다. 작가가 임의로 만들어 쓰거나 기존에 있는 흉내말의 형태를 변형하여 사용하기도 한다. 하지만 독자들이 그 의미를 이해하는 데는 크게 어려움이 없다. 번역 만화는 언어에 따른 흉내말 사용의 차이를 연구하는 데 유용한 자료가 된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The symbolic words of Korean are different by the text. Therefore, specific usage should not be generalized. Usage of symbolic words is very frequent in cartoon and is being very effective. The usage rate is different by the genres and it is frequently used in comic cartoons or heroic cartoons and it is less frequently used in education cartoon. Symbolic words in cartoon usually indicate context information and onomatopoeia is more used than mimetic words. The usage of symbolic words in cartoons is informal. Symbolic words in general usually take reduplication while more repetitions are used in cartoons. Also, sometimes, dependent roots are used alone. As the syntactic characteristic, the symbolic words in cartoons can be used as independent words not related with other components. The symbolic words in cartoon often change forms to express the object more directly. In some cases, the forms of letters are differentiated for more realistic expression. Many of the symbolic words used in cartoon texts are not in the dictionary. Those are improvised by the writers or used by changing the symbolic words used before. However, the readers have no trouble understanding. Translated cartoons are useful materials to study the difference of symbolic words by the languages.
