This study begins with North Korean household waste flowing into the eastern coast of South Korea. The present study dealt with the issue of North Korean waste flowing into South Korean coasts from the perspective of North Korean studies rather than the old perspective of oceanography. A look at the wrappers of North Korean products collected in the eastern coast shows that most of the factories were located in Pyeongyang, which indicates that products produced in Pyeongyang were distributed to the areas along the east coast, which hold big cities representing North Korea including Wonsan, Cheongjin, Hamheung, and Laseon. At a matter of fact, some product wrappers marked a production plant located in these cities. Since Kim Jong-un seized power, North Korea has held a national design exhibition at the national level, emphasizing industrial art. There is a special emphasis on trademark designs expressing the unique characteristics of products. The study examined how trademark designs were different for the same items among different factories with a focus on the products produced in major cities along the east coast. There is a need to broaden the breadth of studies on North Korean household waste flowing into South Korea through interdisciplinary research between the viewpoint of North Korean studies and that of oceanography for North Korean waste.
