브뤼기에르 신부가 부모에게 보낸 서한 연구 = A Study on Letters Sent by Father Bruguière to His Parents

“A Study on letters sent by Father Bruguière to his parents” shows that Bishop Bruguière, the first archbishop of Joseon, left the Diocese of Carcassonne for Paris, where the Paris Foreign Mission Society headquarters is located, to begin the life of a missionary, and left the port of Bordeaux to Batavia Island. This study analyzes five letters sent to his parents over a 10-month period from September 8, 1825, when he arrived, to July 1826. Through the study of these letters, we discovered the historical and theological value of the five letters.
Through this study, we discovered that these letters contain important values that confirm Father Bruguiere's vocation and identity as a missionary, especially his aspirations and will as a missionary during his early missionary days. In addition, although he contained his strong aspirations as a missionary, he also recognized the value of his letters, which also sufficiently contained his human side through his love and affection for his parents, concern, concerns, and blessings for his relatives and acquaintances. The historical fact that he served as pastor in the Diocese of Siam is well known, but it was also confirmed that it has important historical value as it confirms the fact that when he received training as a missionary in Paris and headed to Asia, his intended mission destination was Cochinchina, not Siam. Lastly, the value of letters sent from Batania can be seen as they also contain historical information showing the social, cultural and religious situation of Batania in the early 19th century.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

｢브뤼기에르 신부가 부모에게 보낸 서한 연구｣는 조선 초대 대목구장인 브뤼기에르 주교가 선교사의 삶을 시작하기 위해 카르카손 교구를 떠나 파리외방전교회 본부가 있는 파리로 떠나고, 보르도항구를 떠나 바타비아섬에 도착한 시기인 1825년 9월 8일부터 1826년 7월까지 10개월 동안 부모에게 보낸 서한 다섯 편을 분석하는 연구이다. 이 서한 연구를 통해서 우리는 다섯 편의 서한이 가지는 역사신학적 가치를 발견했다.
우리는 이 연구를 통해서 브뤼기에르 신부의 선교사로서의 성소와 정체성, 특히 초기 선교사 시절에 브뤼기에르 신부의 선교사로서의 열망과 의지를 확인할 수 있는 중요한 가치를 이 서한들이 품고 있다는 사실을 발견했다. 또한 선교사로서의 강한 열망들을 담지만, 부모님에 대한 사랑과 애정, 친척과 지인들에 대한 관심과 걱정과 축복을 통해서 그의 인간적인 면모도 충분하게 담고 있는 서한의 가치도 인정하게 되었다. 시암교구에서 사목했다는 역사적 사실은 잘 알려져 있지만, 파리에서 선교사로서 양성을 받고 아시아로 향할 때 그의 선교 예정지는 시암이 아닌 코친차이나 였다는 사실도 확인할 수 있는 중요한 역사적 가치도 지니고 있다는 사실도 확인했다. 마지막으로 바타니아에서 보낸 서한에는 바타니아의 19세기 초반 사회적 문화적 종교적 상황을 보여주는 역사적 정보도 지니는 서한의 가치를 볼 수 있다.
