슬래쉬 기법을 활용한 감성패브릭 디자인

Thanks to the development of High-tech industry and lots of information media, the 21st century, as the period of Knowledge Intensive Industry Centered Design, has been undergoing rapid changes. In this rapidly changing social environments, fashion and the trend of fabric, both of which are related to people, are also changing rapidly along with the changes of consumer's behavior. Together with the human race, fabric has developed as means for the basic element of human life, that is, food, clothing and housing with the long history and tradition. As the national income and a standard of living have been increased, there are lots of needs toward various and new designs. While the functional era, in which people learned the knowledge and skills on design and used their learning for making a living, is gone, the era of upgraded design, which thinks much of the meaning of sensibility and psychological value as well as symbols or the way to express personality is valued highly, rushes into. Fabric gives attention to the need of such design that shows the functions with diversified expression according to the trend in the era of
specialization and is concerned about artistic effects in the design of fabric to keep pace up with the trend of the times. Also fabric is interested in developing the creativity and aesthetics challenging new things and has tried to develop products generating high value added. For the development of this fabric, firstly it is necessary to research with full of interest on Visual Texture and Tactile Texture, which are the important features of fabric. In order to develop the creative design of fabric, it is necessary to choose new material under the current circumstances. Also, it is thought that it is important to research on the transformation of material and the development of expressional techniques able to be free from uniformity in the existing products of fabric and to maximize the features of texture that each fabric has.
In order to develop the motive design, I, as a researcher of this paper, want to examine the possibility of developing the design focusing on formativeness and the study of Fabric Material Processing Technique. Especially, I will suggest the possibility of fibrinous development by studying largely on the changes of texture shown on the surface of fabric by the Slash Technique grafted on Nuno Felt Technique among Fabric Material Processing Technique. Study for this purpose is as follows.
Firstly, I will study on the patterns and features of line, which will be employed for the motive of design, and the formativeness of line in art and design such as the image of line used for modern plastic art
Secondly, I will develop such fabric that has both practicality and modern design as manufactures using the motive of line emphasizing on the aspects of sensibility.
Thirdly, based on the understanding about Slash Technique and Nuno Felt Technique, I will examine the external transformation by the changes of texture on the surface of fabric occurred through the combination of complex materials, choose a material suitable for Fabric Material Processing Technique, manufacture and analyze real manufactures.
The results generated from the process of this study are as follows.
Firstly, the application of the motive of line, which is the most important factor in plastic art, has possibilities enough for being developed as fabric design with high value added through various formative experiments.
Secondly, it is possible to produce the three dimensional and decorative changes of texture on the surface of new and various fabric through the loose strand, curling, and contraction phenomenon of Slash Technique and shrinking phenomenon by the alkali, heat, and friction of Nuno Felt Technique. Thirdly, in order to find the changes of texture represented according to the degree of the combination of one fabric with another fabric, it is important to choose materials appropriate for a researcher's aesthetic sense from the existing fabric materials. To do so, I tested cohesion between materials. I learned that these various experiments are the positive way to find out new texture. Fourth, I want to show various design factors by the motive of line in order to stimulate the moderns' sensibility, apply Slash Technique and Nuno Felt Technique of Fabric Material Processing Technique, and contribute to develop fabric materials with high value added by presenting a total of 18 pieces from the works of 8 groups.

21세기는 하이테크(High-tech)산업의 발전과 많은 정보 매체의 발달로 인하여, 지식 집약적 산업이 산업의 중심에 이르게 됨에 따라 디자인 또한 그 중심에서 급속도의 발전과 변화를 경험하고 있다. 이러한 급변하는 사회적 환경 속에서 인간과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있는 패션과 섬유의 흐름 역시 소비자 의식 변화에 따라 빠르게 변화하고 있다.
섬유는 예로부터 인간생활의 기본 요소인 의. 식. 주의 문제를 해결하기 위한 재료로서 인류와 더불어 오랜 역사와 전통을 가지고 발전해 왔으며 국민의 소득과 생활수준이 향상되면서 다양하고 새로운 디자인의 개발의 필요성을 느끼게 되었다. 지식, 기술만 익히며 그것을 삶의 방편으로 삼아왔던 기능주의 시대는 가고 감성과 정신적인 가치의 의미를 더욱 중요시하고 그 기호나 개성의 표현 방식이 중시되는 차원 높은 디자인의 시대에 돌입한 것이다. 섬유는 전문화시대의 추세에 따라 다각적인 표현의 기능성을 시사하는 디자인에 대한 필요성을 주목하고, 시대적 흐름에 부응하고자 섬유 디자인에 있어서 예술적 효과와 새로운 것에 도전하는 창의성과 심미성의 개발에 관심을 가지며 고부가 가치의 상품 개발에 노력을 다하고 있다. 이러한 섬유의 발전을 위해서 우선 섬유의 중요한 특성인 시각적 질감과 촉각적 질감에 대하여 관심을 가지고 연구하는 것이 필요하다고 본다.
섬유의 창의적인 디자인 개발을 위하여 새로운 소재의 선택이 요구되고 있는 현 상황에서 섬유가 지니고 있는 질감의 특성을 최대화하면서 기존 섬유제품이 가지는 획일성을 탈피할 수 있는 표현 기법의 개발과 소재 변형에 대해 연구하는 것이 중요하다고 생각한다. 본 연구자는 모티브 디자인 개발을 위해서 선의 조형성과 섬유소재가공기법연구에 중점을 두어 디자인 개발 가능성을 타진해 보고자 한다. 특히, 섬유소재가공기법중 하나인 슬래쉬(Slash)기법과 누노팰트(Nuno felt)기법을 접목시켜 섬유 표면에 나타난 질감 변화를 중점적으로 연구하여 섬유소재 개발 가능성을 제시하려고 한다.
이러한 목적을 위한 본 연구의 영역은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 디자인 모티브로 사용 될 선(Line)의 유형과 특성, 현대 조형예술에 사용되어진 선의 이미지 등 예술과 디자인에 있어서 선의 조형성에 대해서 알아본다.
둘째, 감성적 측면이 강조된 선 모티브를 활용한 작품제작으로 모던한 디자인과 실용성을 동시에 지닌 패브릭을 개발한다.
셋째, 슬래쉬(Slash)기법과 누노팰트(Nuno felt)기법의 이해를 바탕으로 복합 소재와의 결합을 통해 일어나는 섬유표면의 질감 변화에 의한 외관 변형에 대해 살펴보고 섬유소재가공기법에 맞는 적합한 소재를 선택하여 실제작품을 제작, 분석한다.
이러한 연구 과정을 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 조형예술의 가장 중요한 요소인 선(Line)모티브 활용은 다양한 조형 실험으로 고부가 가치가 있는 패브릭 디자인으로 개발될 가능성을 충분히 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 슬래쉬(Slash)기법의 올풀림, 말림, 수축현상과 누노팰트(Nuno felt)기법의 알칼리, 열, 마찰에 의한 축융(shrinking)현상은 새롭고 다양한 섬유 표면에 입체적이고 장식적인 질감 변화를 가능하게 한다.
셋째, 섬유와 섬유의 결합 정도에 따라 표현되는 질감 변화를 찾기 위하여 기존의 섬유 소재 가운데 연구자의 미감에 맞는 소재를 선택하는 것이 중요하다. 이를 위하여 소재들 간의 결합력 실험을 하였다. 이러한 다양한 실험은 새로운 질감을 발견하는 적극적인 방법임을 알 수 있었다.
넷째, 현대인들의 감성을 자극하는 섬유 소재 개발을 위해 선(Line)을 모티브로 다양한 디자인 요소를 표현하고 여기에 슬래쉬(Slash)기법과 누노팰 (Nuno felt)기법이라는 섬유소재가공기법을 응용하여 8그룹의 작품 총 18점을 제시하여 고부가 가치의 섬유소재개발에 기여하고자한다.
