우리나라 광역시,도 전통시장의 효율성 분석 = Efficiency Analysis of Korean Traditional Markets at Provincial/Metropolitan Level

국문 초록 (Abstract)

전통시장은 소비자에게 다양한 상품 구매 기회를 제공하고 다수 상인에게 삶의 터전을 제공하고 있다. 최근 새로운 업태의 등장과 사회적 환경의 변화에 따라 경쟁력이 취약한 전통시장이 위축되고 있어 지역경제의 활성화에도 지대한 영향을 미치게 되어 전통시장의 개선과 활성화가 중요한 과제로 대두되고 있다. 전통시장에 대한 활성화 방안과 육성전략을 수립하기 위해서는 정확한 진단이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 각 지역 전통시장의 운영 효율성과 특성을 수리적으로 분석하여 전통시장의 활성화에 참조가 될 수 있는 실증적 기반을 제공하도록 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 각 지역 전통시장의 운영상 효율성을 측정하여 점수화한다. 효율성은 다수의 투입물과 다수의 산출물을 가지고 분석하는 비모수적인 방법인 DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis)를 통해 측정한다. 또한 매장면적, 주차시설, 현대화 추진율, 평균관리비와 같은 운영특성이 매출액과 시장효율성에 어느 정도 영향을 주는지 확인하기 위한 회귀분석을 실시한다.

Traditional markets provide shopping opportunities of variety of products to the consumers and the living ground to numerous traders. Recently the advent of new merchandising patterns and socio-environmental changes are dwarfing traditional markets in weak competitive position. These changes greatly hamper the invigoration of local economy and require as an important mission the improvement and revitalization of traditional markets. The planning of revitalization and cultivation of traditional markets necessitates exact assessments. This study numerically analyzes the operational efficiencies and characteristics of regional traditional markets, offering empirical basis as a reference for vitalizing the markets. For this purpose we first measure and numerate the operational efficiencies of traditional markets at the provincial/metropolitan level. We calculate efficiencies using a non-parametric method of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) which utilizes multiple inputs and multiple outputs. In addition we carry out regression analysis in order to find out how much the operational characteristics such as shop floor area, parking facilities, market modernization, operating costs and so on affect the market revenue and efficiencies.
