Identification of individuals predisposed to develop obesity is an important issue for prevention and control of the obesity. Surveys have demonstrated that a high prevalence of obesity appeared frequently in Taeumin among Sasang constitutions, but Enneagram personality-types has not been used to classify the patterns of obesity. These two classification methods were employed in combination in the current study, and it was analyzed whether the morbidity pattern of obesity can be characterized in further detail. The subjects were 125 University students(62 males, and 63 females) who answered both questionnaire QSCCⅡ and Korean Enneagram Profile of KEEC. The obesity of students was classified by obesity index and BMI.
Taeumin accounted for 40% of subjects and Soyangin and Soeumin were 34.4% and 25.6%, respectively. The values of BMI and obesity index in average showed that Taeumin group was overweight or obese, whereas Soyangin and Soeumin groups were normal. Of note, Taeumin male goup is overweight by obesity index(average, 117.01%) and obese by BMI(average, 25.74), whereas Taeumin female group is normal.
The physical indices according to Enneagram energy-center showed no significant differences between the groups. The obesity index and BMI of both male and female were highest at the heart-center. The physical indices according to nine types of the Enneagram showed significant differences between the types. These physical indices were highest at the type 3 and lowest at the type 4. The difference was not significant in male, while that in female was significant(p<0.05).
The physical indices according to both Enneagram energy-centers and Sasang constitutions showed no significant differences in weight, obesity index and BMI. By sexual analysis, only Taeumin female group had significant differences(p<0.05) in obesity index and BMI. And in the heart-center the obesity index was in overweight range and the BMI was in obese range. But in the Taeumin male group, the obesity index was in overweight range at the gut-center and heart-center and was in obese range at the head-center. The BMI was in overweight range at the gut-center and was in obese range at the heart-center and head-center. The others were in normal range.
Diagnosis of data provides a strong evidence supporting that subjects of Taeumin with heart-center of Enneagram are prone to develop obesity. The present data suggest a potential of the classification of obesity patterns using Enneagram KEPTI in addition to Sasang constitutions for prevention and control of the obesity.
