Novel ionic liquids (ILs), N,N-di(cyanomethyl)piperidinium tetrafluoroborate ([DCNPip]BF<sub>4</sub>) and N,N-di(cyanomethyl)piperidinium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([DCNPip]Tf<sub>2</sub>N), have been prepared. The physical and electrochemical properties of ILs wer determined to investigate the effect of nitrile groups on the cation. The melting temperatures of [DCNPip]BF4 and [DCNPip]Tf2N were measured as 200 and 67 ℃, respectively. The electrochemical stabilities of ILs were observed as 4~5 V. Ionic conductivity of [DCNPip]Tf<sub>2</sub>N increased from 0.03 to 0.86 mS cm<sup>-1</sup> by elevating the temperature from 40 to 80 ℃, respectively
