The study explores the content of the digital-media–based music education introduced in the 4th industrial-revolution era andexamines its characteristics. The digital-media–based music education content that can be used in music education cover educational platforms that facilitate communication, application-software programs to edit videos, virtual reality and augmentedreality, and artificial-intelligence–based music applications. This study examines the direction of education in the 4thindustrial-revolution era by first examining music-education literature related to digital media through a literature analysis. Second,14 types of digital-media–based music education content are explored and their characteristics relevant to music education are examined. The conclusions obtained are as follows. First, all the 14 types of digital-media–based music education content are deemed to be useful learning tools in music classes. Second, refining is required at the conceptual level of digital media. Third,the essential content of music should not be lost when using digital media, and fourth, an ethical culture that considers othersshould be cultivated in an anonymous virtual space. This study will help music educators and teachers explore the significanceof the content and characteristics of digital-media–based music education in new teaching and learning methods.
