This study was to examine the difference in perception of health according to the sports participation patterns and to provide the essential data for enhancing sports participation in elderly and future study.
Two hundred subjects were selected through the convenience sampling method in Kyung-ki area from May 1, 2003 to May 8, 2003 and 150 questionnaires were found to be valid and used for this study.
The instrument was developed for this study by modifying three instruments used for previous studies which were Kim(1998), Jang(1999), and Roh(1988).
Twenty questions were included and Cronbach' s alpha for the instrument were α = .9l1(physical factor), α = .878(mental factor), and α = .915(social factor). Windows for SPSSV. 10.0 was utilized for data analysis and the frequency distribution, t-test, and ANOVA were used for analysis.
The findings were as following. First, there was difference for perception of health by gender in physical factor and mental factor and by education level, difference in mental factor and social factor. Also, perception of health by freely spendable income was found to be significantly different in physical, mental, and social factor.
Second, perception of health by the purpose of sports participation was found to be significantly different in physical, mental, and social factor and by duration of sports participation, there was difference in physical factor and social factor. Also, there was difference in physical factor for perception of health by the frequency of sports participation and by the type of sports participation, there was difference in social factor.
