The purpose of this study is to analyze the genre of the introductions in Korean Linguistic thesis. For the analysis, based on the ‘Modified CARS model for Ph.D. thesis Introductions’ in Bunton(2002), we searched for the features appearing in Korean Linguistic thesis introduction and constructed a generalized model, ‘KL-CaRS Model’. The KL-CaRS Model, a composition of the move wise, remains mostly equivalent to Bunton(2002)’s model. Yet its difference with Bunton(2002)’s model was often saliently observed in the respective steps of each move. The most common move in the introduction was the ‘Reviewing previous research’. The characteristics of the move of the introduction are as follows. First, it often begins by revealing the purposes of the research. Second, research questions are largely generated by pointing out loopholes in the previous research or by reflecting from results of the previous studies. The generalized model and formal expression of the introduction of the Korean Linguistic thesis proposed in this study can be helpful to researchers writing a thesis on Korean Linguistic.
