Population migration has a long history. The multicultural phenomenon in which multiple cultures coexist in a country and the international population flow under the trend of globalization are spreading on a large scale. With the influx of foreign workers, international marriage immigrants, and international students into Korea, Korea is becoming a multicultural society. In particular, as the number of immigrants entering Korea through international marriages increases, a new form of family-multicultural families is emerging.
In South Korea, the study of multiculturalism has not been long. South Korea has long emphasized the purity of blood, and the single-ethnic spirit is the strong spiritual pillar of the country. Therefore, issues related to multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society have been ignored for a long time. But after entering the middle of the 20th century, the traditional identity of the Han people collided with the new cultural phenomenon of multi-ethnic and multi-cultural.
Transnational marriage immigration, especially the emergence of female immigrants, has led to low fertility and aging. Although the shortage of male marriage partners in agricultural and fishing villages is being alleviated, Korean society is also facing real problems such as language communication in multicultural families, cultural differences, insufficient economic activities, differences in child rearing and education methods, and social discrimination, which have triggered a new society problem. caused.
Therefore, this study was conducted to develop a multicultural family support policy in Korea, to identify commonalities, differences, and insights compared to overseas immigrant countries, and to explore the future direction of multicultural family support policy in Korea.
The present thesis of this dissertation consists of four parts. The first part is the theoretical background of the study. The concepts of multiculturalism, multiculturalism, and multicultural society, the current situation of multicultural society development in Korea, the current situation of immigrant classification and social adaptation in Korea, and the image of multicultural families in Korea and the current situation of their increase are collated. In the second part, the practical difficulties experienced by Korean multicultural families in terms of language communication, cultural differences, difficulties in child rearing and education, and social maladjustment due to prejudice are examined, and the formulation and implementation of existing policies related to multicultural families are examined and analyzed. The third part is a comparative study of Canada, the United States, and France, and collates the existing support policies on multicultural families. The fourth part compares the support policies related to multicultural families in the three countries with the Korean multicultural family support policies and seeks commonalities, differences, insights, and future directions for the development of Korean multicultural family support policies.
