The Impact of Information Technology on Work Group Performance

There are three major issue in studying information technology(IT) impacts on work group performance. First, IT impacts should be studied in depth. as MIS literature survey articles note, there has been little research on the nature and type of impacts of IT. second, performance factors(the relevant factors affecting group performance) should be identified. Third, we need to map IT impacts on performance factors in order to understand better how IT affects group performance.
In this paper we provide a model for studying IT impacts on work group performance, considering the three issues above. To explain improved group performance due to IT, we need to examine two relationships; (1) between IT and IT impacts, and (2) between IT impacts and group performance. IT can habe impacts through a set of related variables, such as task, individual, group, organizational, and environmental characteristics. These IT impacts affect group performance through performance factors that underlie a group process.
