아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배 연구: 예배인도를 중심으로 = A Study on Pentecostal Worship in the Azusa Street Revival Movement: Focusing on Worship Leadership

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날의 교회는 다양한 변화와 위기들에 직면하고 있다. 포스트모더니즘과 다양한 디지털 미디어의 발달은 이 시대의 인간의 삶은 물론 교회 구성원의 신앙의 패턴을 빠르게 변화시키고 있다. 특히 최근 전 지구적 규모로 우리 삶을 위협했던 바이러스 팬데믹은 교회 사역의 항상성마저 무너뜨릴 정도였다. 이러한 원인들로 인해 성도의 교회 출석률의 하락과 예배의 비활성화를 가져다 주었다. 따라서 현재 교회의 사역은 대안 마련이 매우 시급한 상황이다. 교회에서 예배는 그 대안 모색이 우선적으로 이루어져야 하는 사역 분야다. 교회가 예배 공동체이며, 신앙생활의 중심에 예배가 자리하기 때문이다. 예배는 영과 진리로 드려져야 한다(요 4:23). 영과 진리를 겸비한 예배만이 생명력을 확보할 수 있게 된다. 그러나 상당수의 교회가 드리는 예배에서 생명력이 상실된 지 이미 오래다. 그 결과 성도들은 심각한 영적 고갈 상태를 느끼고 있다. 따라서 현시점에서 예배학이 당면한 시급한 과제는 예배다움을 회복하는 일이다. 영과 진리로 드려지는 예배, 하나님의 임재를 경험하는 예배, 성도의 자기 정체성과 영생의 힘을 회복하는 예배가 재구축되어야 한다.
예배는 하나님과 예배자의 만남이며 예배요소의 실행을 통해서 하나님과 예배자의 친밀한 관계를 형성한다. 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배는 이러한 하나님과 예배자의 만남이 있는 살아있는 예배의 중심에 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 예배다움의 회복을 위한 노력의 일환으로 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배의 요소 가운데에서 ‘예배인도’ 에 대해 고찰하였다. 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배의 예배 인도를 통해서 생명력 있는 예배를 위한 원리를 파악하고 오늘날의 예배를 위한 통찰을 얻는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배인도의 주역인 윌리암 시무어(William J. Seymour)의 성장 과정과 신학적 배경을 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 예배에서의 예배 요소의 의미를 살피고 예배 요소 가운데에서도 예배인도의 중요성에 대해 고찰 할 것이다. 예배요소로서의 예배 인도가 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배 가운데에서 이루어졌던 사례를 통해서 아주사 부흥운동의 오순절적 예배인도를 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것이다. 따라서 이 연구는 현 시대 교회 예배의 생명력을 회복하는 데 필요한 통찰을 가져다 줄 것으로 기대한다.

Today’s church is facing various changes and crises. Postmodernism and the development of digital media are rapidly changing not only the lives of people in this era but also the patterns of faith of church members. In particular, the recent viral pandemic that threatened our lives on a global scale has even destroyed the homeostasis of church ministry. These causes have led to a decline in church attendance and deactivate of worship. Therefore, the current church ministry is in a very urgent situation where alternatives must be prepared. In the church, worship is a ministry area where alternatives must be sought first. This is because the church is a worship community and worship is at the center of religious life. Worship must be offered in spirit and truth (John 4:23). Only worship that combines spirit and truth can secure vitality. However, many churches have already lost vitality in their worship services. As a result, believers are feeling serious spiritual exhaustion. Therefore, the urgent task facing worship studies at this point is to restore worship. Worship offered in spirit and truth, worship that experiences the presence of God, and worship that restores the saints’ self-identity and the power of eternal life must be reconstructed. Worship is the meeting of God and the worshiper, and an intimate relationship between God and the worshiper is formed through the execution of worship elements. The Pentecostal worship of the Azusa Street Revival Movement is at the center of living worship where there is this meeting of God and the worshiper. Therefore, this study examined ‘worship leadership’ among the elements of Pentecostal worship of the Azusa Street Revival Movement as part of efforts to restore this worshipfulness. The purpose of this study was to grasp the principles for vibrant worship through the worship leadership of the Azusa Street Revival Movement’s Pentecostal worship and to gain insight for today’s worship. To this end, we will examine the growth process and theological background of William J. Seymour, the main figure of the Azusa Street Revival Movement’s Pentecostal worship. We will examine the meaning of the worship elements in worship and consider the importance of worship leadership among the worship elements. In addition. The worship leadership as an element of worship will help us understand the true nature of the Pentecostal worship leadership of the Azusa Revival Movement through the examples of Pentecostal worship of the Azusa Revival Movement. Therefore, it is expected that this study will provide the insight necessary for the Azusa Revival Movement Pentecostal worship to restore the vitality of contemporary church worship.
