(Revelational Mechanism in Lord of the Flies)
What is concerned with Lord of the Flies is basically to what extent human life might be destroyed and distorted by the process which mimetic desire, social or emotional crisis, and conflictual rivalry are passing through. In order to illuminate this perspective, all unessentials are being removed out of text; only essentials are being kerneled in the text. In order to make primitive instinct show through, its background in both time and space is being simplified to give its way to revealing human evil mind. Two boys named as Ralph and Jack show a great distinction in their appearances, but they are, as a matter of fact, trying to be mimetic, and to get close to each other. Loss of differentiation is certainly supposed to call for crisis, which would be surely connected to violence soon. In this context, it goes to show that Ralph as a self is sharing his mimetic object of 'lord of the flies' with Jack represented as the other.
While a triangular desire concerned with Ralph, Jack, and Lord of the Flies is forming to overmaster the whole plot, Piggy is being targeted as a victim. Piggy is not described as an innocent, or guilty boy, but as a boy who has just some signs with which others might think him as a victim. With no excuse, accidently Piggy is murdered by way of collective violence. He could be regarded as a scapegoat in terms of Girard's concept: first, he has existed in the generalized loss of differences, then, in which members have been trying to eliminate differences, finally, he has possessed the marks which suggest a victim.
In the last phase, Ralph's crisis is settled, but done in somewhat vague way. Sudden naval officer's involvement makes a denouement very much wedded to a sort of deus-ex-machina. This absurd resolution cannot be the real, and the last one to human, because Ralph will get involved in much bigger violence suggested in atomic bombs. That is, he will go to the bigger world of mimetic myth. There must be nothing changed except the size of lenses by which the deep instinct of human mind might get pictured. To put this thing in the simpler way, it might be remarked that Ralph will move from microscope to the wideangle lense. Thus, it goes to show that he will still remain in violence. In regard to another possible rescue to come, nobody can make sure whether any rescue will happen including even same kind of that awkard one done by British Navy.
