조기유학을 매개로 한 ``분절가구 초국적 가족``의 부상: 동아시아 개발국가 중상류층 가족의 초국가적 재생산에 관한 논의 고찰 = The Emergence of ``Split-Household Transnational Family`` Mediated by the Early Overseas Education: A Review on the Transnational Reproduction of Middle and Upper Class Families in East Asian Development States

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The family is the molecular basis of the capitalist nation-state. Yet its own reproduction is threatened by the stream of globalization and nation-states` neoliberal restructuring policies. The erosion of socio-economic ground in male-headed patriarchal family is especially conspicuous in East Asian development states. In these states, family-centered, market-oriented education policies gradually encroach the conventional trigonal structure of state, education, and family, The emergence of ``split-household transnational family`` is a socio-spatial consequence of family-based global strategy through which to minimize socio-economic uncertainties and to embody social and cultural capital to family. The split-household transnational family is based on strong familial bonds, generated by family-centered Confucian ideologies and affluent material basis. The early overseas education is a key global strategy for elites and upper-middle classes to socially reproduce and push up the family`s social stratum. However, such transnational maintenance not only accompanies enormous sacrifices and difficulties of their female spouses, but it is also transformed by internal resistance and negotiation among family members. The global strategies and networks of split-household transnational families are articulated with the emplacement of migrants` everyday lives.
