16세기 나바라 여왕 잔 달브레의 칼뱅주의 국가관과 프로테스탄트 정체성: ‘베아른 교회법령’과 『충분한 설명』을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

잔 달브레는 16세기 프랑스 종교전쟁 시기에 프랑스 남서부에 위치한 나바라 왕국의 통치자이자 베아른 종교개혁을 이끈 위그노 지도자이다. 로마가톨릭을 신봉하던 프랑스 왕실에서 어머니 마르가리타 당굴렘에 의해 프로테스탄트로 자란 잔 달브레는 다른 왕족 여성들과 달리 공개적으로 프로테스탄트임을 드러낸 보기 드문 의지의 소유자이기도 하다. 어릴 때부터 프로테스탄트 성향의 가정교사에게 교육 받은 잔은 10대 시절 두 번의 정략결혼이라는 고난을 겪으면서 하나님을 의지하게 되었고 20대에 꾸준히 프로테스탄트들을 도우며 종교개혁자들과 교류하다가 32세에 테오도르 드베즈로 대표되는 칼뱅주의자들의 영향으로 공개 개종을 했다. 이후 자신의 영지 베아른에서 입법과 제도 개혁을 통해 종교개혁을 단행하며 프랑스 위그노 중 가장 높은 위치에서 종교개혁운동을 이끌던 잔 달브레는 오르테즈 아카데미 설립, 성서 번역, 앙리 4세 등 많은 영적 유산을 남겼다.
본 논문은 종교개혁사가 기억해야 할 잔 달브레의 생애와 활동을 프로 테스탄트 통치자와 프로테스탄트 신앙인이라는 두 측면에 초점을 두고 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 잔이 어떻게 프로테스탄트가 되었는지를 기술할 것이다. 이후 프로테스탄트 통치자 잔을 조명하기 위해 ‘베아른 교회법령’에 나타난 베아른 종교개혁과 잔의 국가관을 분석할 것이다. 프로 테스탄트 신앙인 잔을 확인하기 위해서는 1563년 잔과 다르마냑 추기경이 주고받은 편지, 1568년 작성한 『충분한 설명』 속 잔의 목소리에 귀를 기울 일 것이다. 이를 통해 여성종교개혁자이자 프로테스탄트 통치자인 잔 달브 레를 개혁사에 각인시킬 뿐 아니라 프랑스 종교개혁에 미친 잔의 영향력을 고찰해보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Jeanne d’Albret was the ruler of the Kingdom of Navarre in southwestern France during the 16th century French Religious War and the leader of the Huguenot which led to the Reformation of Béarn. The life of Jeanne, who was raised as a Protestant by her mother Marguerite d’Angouleme, in the Roman Catholic royal family, is extraordinary. She revealed that she is openly Protestant, unlike other royal women. She was taught by a Protestant-oriented tutor during her childhood and became devoted to God after suffering from two bad marriages. In her twenties she steadfastly helped Protestants and interacted with the Reformers. At the age of 32, she was publicly converted under the influence of the Calvinists, represented by Théodore de Bèze. Since then, Jeanne carried out religious reforms through legislation and institutional reforms in her estate, Béarn. In the highest position of French Huguenot, Jeanne d’Albret, who led the Reformation movement, had left the spiritual heritage of Orthez academy, Bible translation and Henry IV.
This paper focuses on the two aspects of the life and activities of Jeanne d’Albret, the Protestant ruler and the Protestant believer, which should be remembered as part of the history of the Reformation. To this end, I will first describe how she became a Protestant. Then I will analyze the Béarn Reformation and her view of the state in the Ecclesiastical Ordinances in Béarn in order to illuminate the Protestant ruler Jeanne d’Albret. In order to identify the Protestant believer Jeanne, I will closely analyze the letter she wrote to Cardinal Georges d’Armagnac in 1563 and the voice of Jeanne in the Ample Declaration she wrote in 1568. In conclusion, through this paper, I would like to examine her influence on the Reformation in France, as well as engrave Jeanne d’Albret, a female Reformer and Protestant ruler, into the history of Reformation.
