프랑스어 사전 속 아프리카니즘 : 프랑스 내 아프리카 문화의 확산 양상 분석 = Africanisms in French Dictionary: Analysis of African Cultural Diffusion Patterns in France

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 아프리카 문화의 확장성 및 확산에 관한 연구의 일환으로 프랑스어 사전에 포함된 아프리카니즘(africanism), 즉 아프리카 언어에서 유래된 차용어를 분석하여 아프리카 문화가 프랑스 문화 내에 어떻게 도입되고, 확산하며 변형되는지를 살펴보고자 하는 목적을 가진다. 이를 위해 프랑스어 사전 Le Petit Robert de la langue française의 온라인 어원 검색 기능을 사용하여 아프리카니즘을 추출하였고, 추출된 단어를 ‘도입 과정 및 차용 언어’, ‘차용의 형태, 품사 및 분야’, ‘출현 시기’, ‘특이 사항’의 네 가지 기준에 따라 정량적으로 분석하였다. 이후, 분석한 결과를 토대로 ‘유입 양상’, ‘정착 양상’, ‘변형 양상’의 세 단계로 나누어 프랑스 내 아프리카 문화의 확산 양상을 유추하였다. 일련의 작업을 통하여 프랑스의 제1식민제국 후기 및 제2식민제국 초ㆍ중기에 프랑스의 영향 아래 놓였던 지역으로부터 활발하게 도입된 프랑스 내 아프리카의 문화가 프랑스와 아프리카의 긴밀한 관계에도 불구하고 프랑스 문화에 깊은 영향을 주는 경우는 매우 드문 일임을 확인하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine how African culture was introduced, disseminated, and transformed within French culture by analyzing Africanisms, loanwords of African origin, included in French dictionaries. To achieve this, we utilized the etymological search function of an online version of the French dictionary, Le Petit Robert de la langue française, to extract loanwords of African origin. Extracted words were quantitatively analyzed based on four criteria: ‘introduction process and donor language’, ‘category, part of speech, and field of borrowing’, ‘period of appearance’, and ‘specific marker in a dictionary’. Based on our analysis results, we inferred patterns of African cultural diffusion in France by dividing them into three stages: ‘introduction patterns’, ‘settlement patterns’, and ‘transformation patterns’. Through this series of tasks, it was confirmed that it was a rare occurrence for African culture actively introduced from regions under French influence during the late First Colonial Empire and the early to mid Second Colonial Empire to deeply impact French culture.
