<Death in Venice>, the film which was made by Luchino Visconti in 1971, was based on the same title novel by Thomas Mann. A short story, <Death in Venice> was about the fateful love and death of an old writer, Aschenbach, who devoted his life to absolute formalism based on diligent, faithfulness and moderation. He encountered a boy in Venice and fell in love with him and finally breathe his last in front of him. Visconti only changed his job-a writer to a composer and took the original form of Thomas Mann`s novel overall. <Death in Venice> is a literary movie and has been deeply studied about it`s intermedia or intertextuality by many scholars of German literature. This movie has gotten reviews-`ideal transition from a literary work to a video film`, however it`s quite different with the novel as it focused on Aschenbach`s pain, complication, despair and love. The novel keeps a artistic gap to make a distance with a character and has dry and objective style, while the film captures that Aschenbach suffered between what he had believed for his life-reason, ethic, moderation, morality and what he encountered-enthusiastic fascination. Furthermore following the inside trouble of him thoroughly, it concentrates on expressing his emotion dramatically. This directing by Visconti gives viewers not only demoralization with the beauty of moderation but also beautiful miserableness. So this writing is not about relation with the origin, change and transition to film. It researches how this film communicates with viewers and what makes they can get aesthetic experience and for these, what kind of devices are used successfully in it. This is one more try to use the theory about form of film and it`s functional role by Peter Wuss for basic film critic and it also has been studied by me.
