This research selected possible materials and methods to be educationally used in actual lectures of Chinese language by using Chinese TV drama <The Story of a Noble Family> with basic and intermediate level learners as the subjects; moreover, appropriate professors and study systems were also planned.
The organization of this research paper is as follows:
In the second section, theoretical knowledge has been discussed by having two sections, which are the content of TV drama in general and the content of <The Story of a Noble Family>. First, in terms of the relationship between TV drama and Chinese language education, the concept of TV drama is explained. Then, a concise summary on the characteristics of TV drama follows. Furthermore, five educational effects by using TV drama for Chinese language education have also been stated: Motivation, cultural understanding, pronunciation and tone, vocabulary, and listening comprehension skills. After that, information related to TV drama <The Story of a Noble Family>, a brief summary, and main characters were presented.
In the third section, a teaching method that can strengthen Chinese listening and speaking skills has been investigated; this was with the fact that TV drama, a set of audio-visual documents, can give the greatest effects on learners' listening and speaking sections. Before anything else, basic level and intermediate level learners were separated in categories. Then, contents and methods to educationally use for listening and speaking sections were chosen from <The Story of a Noble Family> considering each learner's ability to face a certain degree of difficulty. Finally, suitable professors and study methods were proposed.
In the fourth section, educational materials were sorted from TV drama <The Story of a Noble Family> and several instructional methods were studied. First of all, educational materials were largely divided into four categories: Language, culture, history, and literature. Proper study materials for each category were selected, and professors and study methods were gathered considering interest of students and practicality.
Together with this research, the expectation is to have more research in the future with respect to instructional methods using various TV dramas. This will be in order to set up a systematic way to study deliberating interest of Chinese language learners and practicality.
