한국의 경제개발과 고속철도 산업의 발전에 관한 연구 - KTX의 도입과 기술 고도화를 중심으로 = A Study on Korea’s Economic Development and the Development of the High-Speed Rail Industry - Focusing on the Introduction of KTX and Technological Advancement

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 60년대 이후 철도산업을 끊임없이 발전시켜 고속철도의 개발과 제작 기술을세계 수준으로 높인 한국철도가 가진 저력을 고찰하는데 목표를 두고 있다. 연구목적의수행을 위해 본 고에서는 철도의 산업사(史)적인 연구 방법이 채택되었다.
이번 연구를 통해 우선 1960년대 초반 이후부터 시행된 경제개발계획의 성공으로, 철도산업이 발전할 수 있는 토대가 마련되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 1970~80년대에 접어들어 경제발전에 따른 산업구조의 고도화와 생활 수준의 향상은 교통 환경을 크게 변화시켰던 사실을 유추할 수 있었다.
또한 1990년대 초반부터는 철도재정의 자립을 위한 구조개혁과 경영체질의 개선과 함께 고속철도의 도입과 개발에 나섰는데, 2004년 4월의 KTX 개통은 고속철 사업이 발전하게 되는 전환점이 되었다고 할 수 있다. 특히, 2005년에 기존의 철도청이 한국철도공사로 재편되고, 또한 2007년에는 총괄 업무가 코레일로 일원화되었다. 이와 같이 시대상황의 변화에 대응한 철도산업의 발전을 위한 변신 노력이 고속열차의 개발 능력과 기술수준을 고도화시켰다고 할 수 있다.
오늘날의 한국철도는 KTX의 초기 도입모델이 가진 한계를 극복하고, 고속열차의 제작과 운영에 필요한 기술력을 축적하였다. 최근에는 한국 지형에 맞는 효율적이고 경제적인동력 분산식인 차세대 모델인 KTX-이음을 자체 기술력으로 개발하는 등 세계 철도시장에서 상당 수준의 경쟁력을 갖추게 되었다.

The purpose of this study is to examine Korean railways, which have continuously developed the railway industry since the 1960s and raised the development and technology of high-speed railway to the world level. In order to carry out the research purpose, the industrial history research method of railroad was adopted.
First of all, through this study, it was found that the economic development plan that had been implemented since the early 1960s had been successful, and the foundation for the development of the railway industry had been laid.
Also, in the 1970s and 1980s, it can be said that the advancement of the industrial structure and the improvement of living standards following economic development changed the transportation environment.
In addition, from the early 1990s, along with structural reforms for railway finance independence and management improvement, high-speed railways were introduced and developed. The opening of KTX in April 2004 marked a turning point in the development of the high-speed rail business. In particular, in 2005, the existing National Railroad Administration was reorganized into Korea Railroad Corporation, and in 2007, the overall management was unified with KORAIL.
It can be said that the changes in the circumstances of the times contributed to the advancement of high-speed train development technology along with groundbreaking changes in railroad business and business execution.
As a result, it overcame the limitations of the early KTX model and developed an efficient and economical power-dispersion type next-generation model suitable for the Korean terrain with its own technology. Therefore, it can be said that today’s Korean railways have the technological competitiveness necessary for the production and operation of high-speed trains.
