This study is to focussed on the improvement for traditional markets in Suwon area which have been developed since 1794. Recently modernized - large department stores, as New Core and Highway department Stores, were opened, and many customers change their shopping places from traditional markets to department stores. Therefore traditional markets were confronted with great difficulties.
To catch hold of problems and to proaposal improvement alternatives of traditional markets, we classified markets into three types, that is traditional markets, department stores, super markets. And then asked Suwon citizens how to think about shooping environment, transportation, quality level of goods, convenient facilities, employee's service level, after service between three types of market.
The results of analysis show that consumers prefer department stores to traditional markets in terms of shopping enveronment, reliabilitys of goods, convenient facilities, employee's service, after service, etc..
Threrfore, improvement alternatives of traditional merkets are below.
First, modernization of traditional markets for comfortable shopping environment, convenient facilities for customers. Second, specialization of traditional markets, third, improvement of services, for example, employee's kindness, after service, method of payment, etc.
