This study explores the impact of COVID-19 on fitness club operators in South Korea using a phenomenological qualitative research method. The findings highlight five key challenges: (1) financial and emotional difficulties due to business losses, (2) concerns about the future, including the need to transition to online platforms, (3) confusion caused by frequently changing government policies, (4) the development of their own strategies to adapt to policy uncertainties, and (5) expectations for post-pandemic industry trends, such as increased online training, personalized spaces, and enhanced safety education. The study concludes that addressing social anxiety factors, such as those experienced during COVID-19, requires proactive efforts from policymakers and facility managers to improve environmental conditions and policies. Additionally, fitness clubs must leverage online platforms and digital technologies to provide customized services that align with the new contactless era.
