A personal controversy is something with which we will have nothing to do. An examination of the character and reputation of G. V. Fox and E. N. Dickerson, or of any other person, may be a suitable employment for political journals, but is out of place in the columns of a scientific paper. But, so far as this dispute has a bearing upon the vexed question of the most economical measure of expansion in working steam, it comes within our province.
