미메시스 비평으로 살펴본 사도행전의 기적적인 탈출과 사울의 저항 = 사도행전 12:6-10; 16:25-26; 26:14를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 행 12:6-10과 16:25-26에 나타나는 베드로와 바울과 실라가 감옥으로부터 탈출하는 이야기와 22:14의 바울의 회심/소명 이야기를 유리피데스의 ??박카이??에 나오는 디오니소스의 이야기와 미메시스 비평법을 사용해서 비교한 것이다. 디오니소스 제의는 그리스-로마 시대를 거쳐서 지중해 지역에 가장 널리 알려졌던 것으로 신약성서 안에서도 그 흔적이 남아있다. 디오니소스 제의와 기독교는 많은 부분에 있어서 그 기원을 공유했으며, 예수 탄생 4백여 년 전에 기록된 유리피데스의 ??박카이??는 이런 디오니소스의 특징을 잘 간직하고 있다. 유리피데스의 작품들은 많은 고대 작가들에게 영향을 주었기 때문에 그것에 대한 문학적 모방과 재현이 계속되었다. 데니스 맥도날드는 바로 유리피데스의 작품이 호머의 작품들과 함께 신약성서 기자들에게 영향을 주었다고 주장하면서 그의 미메시스 비평의 6가지 척도를 이용해서 그 관계성을 연구하였다.
사도행전에 나오는 베드로와 바울과 신라의 기적적인 탈출(행 12:6-10;16:25-26) 이야기는 출애굽 전승보다는 헬레니즘적 기적설화의 영향을 받았는데 ??박카이?? 443-450과 576-641에 나오는 디오니소스와 그의 추종자들의 탈출 이야기와 공명한다. 마찬가지로 디오니소스의 특징들은 행9:1-19과 22:6-16과 26:12-18에 보도되는 사울의 회심 또는 소명이야기 속에 나온다. 특별히 행 26:14에 나오는 “‘가시 돋친 채찍을 발길로 차면, 너만 아플 뿐이다’”는 ??박카이?? 794-795와 유사하다. 그러므로 사도행전의 사울과 ??박카이??의 펜테우스는 “자신들이 명백하게 박해하는 새로운 신과 그 제의에 대해서 반대하지”말라는 경고를 받고 있다. 결론적으로 데니스 맥도날드가 지적했듯이 사도행전은 그리스-로마 문학작품들의 흔적을 많이 간직하고 있다. 그것들은 선-텍스트로서 사도행전 기자의 사상과 문학적 구조에 풍부한 자료를 제공해 주고 있음을 필자는 행 12:6-10과 16:24-25, 그리고 26:14를 유리피데스의 ??박카이??와 비교하여 상호텍스트성을 검토하였다. 맥도날드가 제시한 6가지의 미메시스 비평의 척도를 일률적으로 적용할 수는 없지만, 몇 가지 척도들은 설득력이 높기 때문에 사도행전 본문에 대한 새로운 해석에 대한 전망을 제시한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

By using mimesis criticism, this paper compares ‘accounts of prison-escapes’ (Acts 12:6-10; 16:25-26; 26:14) with Dionysiac stories of Euripides’ Bacchae. The cult of Dionysus was widely spread among the Mediterranean areas during the Greco-Roman period, and its influence appeared in the New Testament. Scholars have argued that the cult of Dionysus and Christianity have shared many commonalities. Before Jesus was born, about four hundred years ago, Euripides’ Bacchae described features of Dionysiac cult and Dionysus himself. Because Euripides’ works influenced many ancient writers, they have tried to rewrite and copy his works. In arguing that the works of Homer and Euripides influenced the authors of the New Testament, Dennis MacDonald suggests six criteria of mimesis criticism for further studies.
This miraculous escape stories in Acts 12:6-10 and 16:25-26 were rather influenced by the Hellenistic legends than Exodus tradition because the escape stories of Dionysus and his followers (Bacchae 443-450 and 576-641) are literarily resonant with the them. Likewise, another Dionysiac character appears in the story of Saul’s confession/call (Acts 9:1-19; 22:6-16; 26:14). In particular, The phrase “‘It is hard for you to kick against the goads’”(Acts 26:14) is similar to that of Bacchae 794-795. Therefore, Saul in Acts and Pentheus in Bacchae are receiving an warning that they should not reject a new god and new religion. In conclusion, as MacDonald indicated, Acts includes many traces of Greco-Roman literature. They function as hypor-text that provides the author of Acts with affluent source for literary imagination and structure. Although all six criteria of mimesis criticism does not apply to interpret the texts of Acts, some criteria are persuasive, which may suggest a new approach and solution to the study of Acts.
