The science museum as an important cultural and educational venue plays a significant role in fostering children's scientific literacy and creativity. In recent years, the reform of children's education, the advancement of technology, the promotion of digital exhibitions, and the increased societal focus on children's development have all contributed to a new demand for the design and updating of interior exhibition spaces for children in science and technology museums. This study explores the features of children's interior exhibition spaces in science and technology museums and the relevant user analysis, aiming to develop an evaluation system tailored to these spaces. Additionally, through a comprehensive analysis, the study proposes a design improvement method that aligns with the inherent attributes of children's interior exhibition spaces in science and technology museums.
The research begins with a literature review to analyze the current state of features and evaluation systems for children's interior exhibition spaces in Chinese science and technology museums. By conducting case studies and analyzing relevant data from the CNKI database on first-tier science and technology museums in Eastern China, original evaluation indicators for children's interior exhibition spaces were collected. The initially constructed original indicator system was validated through two rounds of Delphi expert surveys, ultimately leading to the formulation of an evaluation indicator system. Furthermore, an analytical hierarchy process was employed to build a hierarchical structural model of the evaluation indicator system, resulting in a weighting table derived from the pairwise judgments made by experts regarding the importance of each indicator.
Subsequently, the research applies these findings to a case study of the Shandong science and technology museums, where a quantitative evaluation and comprehensive evaluation of the children's interior exhibition space was conducted. This evaluation demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed evaluation indicator system, from which optimization strategies were derived.
This study offers a methodological contribution to the evaluation system of children's interior exhibition spaces in science and technology museums. It effectively filters relevant indicators, analyzes their weightings, and identifies opportunities for design improvements. Moreover, the developed evaluation indicator system serves as a comprehensive reference guide for design work within science and technology museums, promoting their overall development.
