중학교 도덕 교과서 전제들의 비판적 분석 = A Critical Analysis on the Presuppositions Found in Middle School Moral Textbooks in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 중학교 도덕 교과서의 전제들을 비판적으로 분석하기 위해 작성되었다. 도덕 교과서에는 명시적인 전제들과 암묵적인 전제들이 있다. 이 연구에서는 네 가지 전제를 선택하여 그것들이 갖고 있는 문제점들을 제시하였다. 교과서의 네 가지 전제는 첫째, 개인의 삶보다는 타인, 민족, 국가를 위한 삶을 중시해야 한다는 것이며, 둘째,전통 도덕으로 현대 사회의 도덕적 병리 현상을 해결할 수 있으며, 셋째, 심신 이원론적 시각에 입각해 물질적 가치보다는 정신적인 가치를 추구해야 한다는 것이며, 넷째, 학식이 많거나 사회적으로 출세한 사람들이 더 도덕적이라는 것이었다. 이러한 전제들은 개인의 삶을 타인, 민족, 국가를 위해 무조건적으로 희생할 것을 요구하며, 사회적 책임을 사회적 약자에게 전가하고, 객관적으로 정당화하기 어려운 ``더 높은`` 도덕을 강요하는 등의 문제를 갖고 있다. 우리는 일방적으로 정한 외적 강제에 맹목적으로 순응하게 만드는 도덕이 아니라 자신의 판단과 의지에 따라 행동할 수 있는 도덕적 능력을 함양해야 한다. 만약 교과서가 앞으로도 사람다운 사람이 살기 위한 자유, 평등, 사회 정의, 인권, 복지 등 사회적 조건을 무시하고, 사회적 강자의 도덕을 가르치고, 사회적 모순을 외면한다면 우리는 도덕교과를 단호하게 거부해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is an critical analysis of the presuppositions found in middle school moral textbooks. In the textbooks there exist implicit as well as explicit presuppositions. Here I choose four of those presuppositions and discuss the problematic nature of them. The first presupposition is that we should value the lives of others, nation and state more than our own personal life. The second is that traditional ethics is the cure for modern society`s moral ills. the more educated or the more successful are more moral. The third is that spiritual values should be pursued rather than material values following mind-body dualism. The fourth is that the more educated or the more successful are more moral. These presuppositions include the following problems such as shifting social responsibility on the weak of the society, asking for individuals`` unconditional sacrifice for others, nation and state, demanding ``the higher`` morals without any objective justification, etc. The presuppositions miss the point that what is needed in moral education is not conforming blindly to external coercion but cultivating moral ability to act in accordance with one`s own judgments and will. If moral subject will teach the social strong``s moral, disregard social ills now and ever, we should take decisive steps to deny it.
