‘미투 운동’(#Me Too)과 ‘위드 유’(#With You) 신학 ― 증언이 들리는 증인 공동체를 소망하며 = ‘#Me Too’ Movement and ‘#With You’ Theology: Towards a Community of Witness That Listens to Victims and Survivors Speak

On January 29, 2018 the JTBC interview with Prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun about sexual harrassment challenged theologians and churches to undertake a task one behalf of women’s flourishing. The problem does not lie in an individual woman who does not have courage to speak out but rather in the fact that there is lack of space where victims/survivors can speak in public about their own wounds. It is the problem of structure and politic. Although women bear witness to their own damage or suffering, there is no context where the words of women are heard and trusted.
In this sense, we need to create a context and space where the voices of victims/survivors are respected and heard. To make the space of ‘#With you’ from a theological perspective, this paper investigates theology of Serene Jones and Shelly Rambo based on trauma theory (Judith Herman in particular).
They analyze traditional theology from a perspective of trauma theory and offer an alternative to it. Both scholars agree that the unilinear and triumphant narrative of the cross –the resurrection and suffering– victory frame which Christianity offers, cannot offer meaningful salvation and grace for the victims/survivors who suffer from symptoms of PTSD (such as hyperaousal, intrusion, and constriction). Jones suggests that victims/ survivors must recognize that they are sinners and at the same time saints. Rambo suggests that the presence of the Spirit in the middle period/space between the cross and the resurrection, helps victims/survivors experience life and the ability to flourish. Furthermore, she takes one more step: arguing that theology based on salvation needs to move to theology based on flourishing.
If churches are the disciples of Jesus Christ and the community of the Spirit, it is natural and reasonable that we should listen to and support the one who suffers from sexual violence, and build a society which supports them. The testimony of survivors should be heard, and church becomes witness on their behalf. Solidarity with survivors will help make rules and cultures that punish perpetrators.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2018년 1월 서지현 검사가 JTBC 인터뷰 중 ‘위력에 의한 성추행’ 사건을 공적으로 발화한 사건은 기독교 신학과 교회에 여성들의 안녕을 위한 과제를 던져주고 있다. 성폭력 발화에 관련된 문제들은 피해생존자가 용기가 없어서 벌어지는 개인적인 문제가 아니라 성폭력에 대해 말할 수 있는 공간이 부재한 공적이고 정치적인 문제이다.
여성이 자신의 피해를 증언해도 그 말을 곧이곧대로 믿어주는 맥락이 존재하지 않기 때문이다.
이런 의미에서 우리는 피해생존자의 목소리를 존중하고 그 목소리가 들리는 맥락과 공간을 만들어 가야 한다. 신학적인 관점에서 이들과 함께 (#with you) 하기 위해 본고는 서린 존스와 샐리 램보가 피해생존자의 관점으로 분석해낸 기독교 신학 비판과 그에 대한 새로운대안을 소개한다. 존스와 램보의 공통점은 트라우마라는 관점에 의거하여, 과각성, 침투, 억제 증상으로 지난한 세월을 보내고 있는 피해 생존자들에게 기독교가 제시하는 전통적인 구원교리, 십자가-부활, 고통-승리라는 단선적이고 승리주의적인 내러티브는 은혜와 구원을 가져다주지 못한다는 것을 발견한 것이다. 존스는 피해생존자들이 죄인이면서 의인이라는 현실을 인정하고 일상을 살아가는 것이 도움이 되고, 램보는 십자가와 부활 사이의 중간기 동안 성령의현존이 피해 생존자에게 생명과 안녕의 경험을 누리게 해준다고 제안한다. 램보는 여기에서 ‘구원’ 개념에 의거한 신학 패러다임을 ‘안녕’ 개념으로 이행할 필요가 있다고 한 단계 더 나아간다.
교회가 예수 그리스도의 제자 공동체이며 성령의 공동체라면 성별위계에 의해 성폭력을 당해 쓰러진 한 사람의 목소리를 들어주고 지지해주는 사회를 만들어가는 데 함께 하는 것이 마땅한 일이다. 맥락없는 진실(unlocated truth) 속에 헛소리와 거짓으로 산산이 부서지는피해자들의 말을 교회는 들어주고, 증인이 되어 주어야 한다. 그래서이들의 피해가 공적인 증언이 되어 가해자가 처벌받는 규범과 문화를 만들어가는 과정에 함께 해야 한다.
