한국 정치세대의 이념적 특성과 정치행태 = The Generation Gap in Korean Politics: The Characteristic Ideological Difference and Its Consequent Effect on Political Behavior

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzes the ideological characteristics of political generation in Korea and its effects on political behavior such as political involvements and party supports. It shows that the Korean society is conservative in valuing order more than freedom and supporting the issues such as aids for North Korea and abolition of National Security Act, whereas it is liberal in valuing freedom more than equality and support the issues such as role of women, environmental preservation and social welfare programs. It also finds that major ideological type in all the political generation is populists who favors both equality and order more than freedom but the democratization realization generation(DRG) tends to be libertarians who value freedom more than order or equality while the democratization striving generation tends to be conservatives who value freedom more than equality but are willing to restrict freedom to preserve social order. An interesting finding is the high political involvements of DRG in political interests and participation as well as their supports for the parties out of power. It implies that DRG seeks for the new political alternatives as a ideological minority against the overriding society for equality and order.
